Where'd my coffee go?!

Show Off Your Dog
  • Love the picture. Wouldn't it be awful if he took a drink but you didn't see him :D
This happened to my family years ago. My parents had crisps, nuts etc out in little dishes for christmas visitors and unbeknown to any of us, our Pappilon, Bambi had been helping herself. :O

  • I would have never thought a Basenji would love Coffee. I'm usually guarding a glass of Scotch or Wine when it comes to my B. They are curious little devils sometimes.

  • Both my dogs love the smell of my rancid coffee breath in the morning (it's touching, in a way – they'll put up with me in my stinkiest state!). We're quite paranoid about keeping the real stuff away from them though. Bowdu had an incident as a 9-month-old pup where he took about two bites worth of fresh coffee grounds and ended up at the emergency vet for two nights. NEVER AGAIN. It's potent and potentially lethal stuff for dogs...

  • A lovely picture!

Mine regularly sample any drinks left within their reach!

  • LOL on the treats and dogs. Reminds me of a rather long story but here goes.

My friend Janice was visiting friends in Tx. Now at that time in her life, Janice was NOT an animal person in any form. (she now is a certified nut job living with 4 horses, 2 dogs and 4 cats) However, she got up for breakfast and here was the cat standing on the counter licking the butter. Janice said her friend must have seen her horrified expression and she said: Janice, does that bother you?

Janice said of course it did. (Meaning unsanitary!)

Her friend said: Me too. She doesn't need to be eating all that fat.

So anyway, years later Janice said it was finally really funny to her but at the time she wouldn't eat anything the people prepared.

I would draw the line at sharing butter, but I don't think I'd throw out the nuts.

  • I love these kind of pictures.. we have the funniest dogs on the planet! :)

:D:D:D That is hilarious. I think true animal people are quite tolerant of such things. I'd keep the butter and fight you for the nuts. :)

  • aw… suki has her mouth in anything i'm drinking. i have to watch everything like a stingy curmudgeon... but better that than a caffeinated basenji!

:D:D:D love it, thanks for the giggle Debra

  • My fella has never cared one 'lick' for any drinks on the coffee table, from water to coffee to pop to adult beverages. What he likes to do is lick the condensation off of the sides of cold drink glasses/cups. Maybe he likes the cold on his tongue?

I live in Whitby. Very close. I have never met a full Basenji in person before. Although Kentucky is pretty close in personality to one hahah

Ono is a Hawaiian word, used to describe something that is 'the best' AND happens to be very basenji appropriate :) We hesitated naming her something that so strongly resembled 'no' but we don't use 'no' very much in our training, we say 'hey' to get their attention and then give them another cue to follow when we are redirecting their behaviour. The pups love the huge costco bed, and I love the great cedar smell :)

Both my pups have their "place" in the bed. Bandit on the left, head down, and Hunter waaayyyy down on the right. Even on hot Summer nights it's the same position!

@Humanoid: Love those pictures :) I've been to Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Surprised to see how many of you that actually was cycling….but it is kind of flat, so you don't have the same challenges as us up here :p Yeah, everybody has a bike here. I'm used to cycle around 20-30 km a day (school). So we make up for the flatness, by cycling for a long distance :p @Humanoid: In the winter, we just have to do other stuff … That's just great!! Looks like a lot of fun! It has been a long time since we had real snow and ice in the Netherlands..

I admire the ability of other breeds that can stay off leash and close to their owners in a normal setting. I suppose the traits I love about my basenjis would be gone if they had the ability to not be interested in moving things.:) I know I am not supposed to say this, but I do enjoy seeing my basenjis fly through the air over furniture like little mountain goats. It is pretty amazing to see them indy 500 through a room.
