    My first B, Shaka came to us 15 years ago today (Ides of March) and left us on 3/21/08 (on Good Friday) - this made me realize that his littermate brother (who we got 3 months after) , Yoda is actually 15 years old (and not 14 as I had thought)! He's still pretty energetic and looks young, but now I'm more concerned. Extra treats for him! ;-)

    Just keep doing what you have been doing… a 15 year old basenji is a testament to the care their owner is giving them. But yes, extra treats and kisses are a must!

    Shaye is definitely not like that. She is a dog's dog, i.e., she loves most other dogs and will try to make every dog in the park play/chase her, sometimes to their great annoyance, but she feels no need to have the humans bother with her at all. At home, she mostly plays with Gemma, our B mix, and when she becomes tired, THEN she curls up on, next to, behind, or tries to get under, one of us. She's not likely to run up to strangers who come to the house, either, although she does eventually smell them out, and will gladly put up with a little petting.

    i do not recommend that…..i tried that once and my b's were ok and didnt do anything or get into anything for like 3 days after that was horrible i think they get bored but i dont crate mine....they have their own room and they stay there when were gone

    @ChaseandZahrasmom: Let's all just be thankful that B's are small dogs and not 110 Lbs beast! At least we can pick them up and tuck them under an arm and walk away with them while training! LOL! I have to do the same thing with Zahra sometimes. Amen! I was just thinking this earlier today while trying to control my pup…
