Hopefully Babies for Langarni Basenjis.

  • Here we are 24 hours later, and still no action :)

  • @saba:

Here we are 24 hours later, and still no action :)

Just remember they don't read the books… My Maggii ate breakfast at 8am... delivered the first puppy at 11:30... Maiden bitch and it freaked her out... didn't have the next one till 1:30... then every 30 minutes for a grand total of 6!... Her temp never dropped.

Mickii refused to eat in the morning, 1st born at 1pm, 4 puppies and don at 2:15pm... temp never dropped

Fatia ate dinner at 6pm, when into labor at 11pm, done at 1:30 = 4 pups... and not to freak you out... but then 3 hours later she whelped a pup with an exposed skull that was not viable... On her xray they saw the 4, and because she had not "pooped" miss the 5th, but not sure if they would have been able to tell if that one was viable or not...

  • Well its now 11pm, and still nothing… These babies are going to be July babies, the way she is going :) !!!

Tanza, I think she is just going to do it, all in her good time, Basenji time, of course ;)... Interesting that your girls did nothing with their temperatures at all. Im starting to wonder just if its a bit over-rated ??? I am also thinking that the brand new thermometer, I bought ths Monday, is faulty ??? According to all the temps Ive taken, Ochre should have had the babies a day or two ago... They are still playing football in the tummy, so all is well with them... I guess time will tell

  • Rio's temp when I began taking it was already low. My vet said not to worry, we started a 5 days before she was due so either the thermometer was reading low or she was just running cooler than the "average" dog. She said don't worry about the number look for a drop of at least a degree from that number or nesting behavior.

I don't usually do the temperature thing but since we knew we were going to do a C-section, it was important to try to get the timing right.

  • And all of mine "nested"…. lots on the day/evening they whelped. Lots and Lots of digging.....

  • Patience is the key (but not too much!) I do hope she'll bless you with these puppies soon.

  • SIGH…........................... Me too Patty

  • Those last few days are the worst for waiting…..

  • Jennie, thinking about y'all…hope all is good..

  • Yes, thinking of you all and hoping all is going well. My goodness - you are getting quite the wait. But what is it that is said? "Good things come to those who wait".

  • Well the news here is ….................................................NOTHING :D...

She ate breakfast and lunch, and is behaving VERY normally... The only slightly exciting thing is she does have a very small amount of colostrum/milk in the bottom 4 nipples, and while Kylie has said this is a good sign, and she may whelp in the next 24 hours, somehow Im not sure Ochre is going to be 'obeying' that rule ;):p...

Day 61 today, and I feel like I have been 'on hold' for weeks now !!!

So much for the 2 pieces of advice Ive had... 1) Most B girls go around day 60..., and 2) Most B girls with largish litters usually go early... YEAH right !!! Ochre obviously listened to both of those, and thought, "I will teach you Mum, for getting your hopes up far too early" :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Waiting, waiting, waiting

Oh forgot to say, that the whelping box is now done... MR Saba has done a really good job, I think its the best one he has made :-). Will take a pic of it, (and Ochre, cos the babies will still be inside !!!), tomorrow and put it up...

  • Oooooooooh - tomorrow we want to have puppy-pics! :D

Best wishes for the birth from Germany, too :)

  • So excited for you. =) Hoping all goes well!!

  • The wait is nearly over - can't wait to see the new puppy pics! Good and happy thoughts to Ochre - bet she is also ready to have it done!

  • Now the whelping box is ready - (if she approves!) Ochre may 'get on with it'.

'So much for the 2 pieces of advice Ive had… 1) Most B girls go around day 60..., and 2) Most B girls with largish litters usually go early... YEAH right !!! Ochre obviously listened to both of those, and thought, "I will teach you Mum, for getting your hopes up far too early" '

Never believe all you've been told!!!!!

I think you've got us all anxious - I click on every day hoping for the good news! (and photos!)

  • Come on Ochre…

  • Still waiting, waiting, waiting…

BUT... Things might just be starting, although Im REALLY trying NOT to get my hopes up ...

She woke me this am with a bit of scratching around in the bedroom. She is VERY sooky, and watches my EVERY move... She only picked at breakfast, BUT ate all her lunch, (its 5.45pm here at the moment)...

She usually lies in front of the heater, but today all she has done is sleep VERY deeply, and has been on my chair all day, snoring her head off, happy to have lots of belly rubs, something she doesnt really like at all, she is very aloof !!!... Im hoping this might be the beginnings of stage 1 of the labour... Her tummy is as tight as a board today as well... I can feel lots of puppy playtime. We have taken pics of her, (and she was DISGUSTED, I can assure you ;)... Will put pics up in a few days, cos I cant do it, and Mr Saba is working tons of shifts :o

Will update as soon as things get going :)...

  • It sounds like she is close now!! So exciting, good luck with everything!! :D

  • Well finally Ochre has had her little babies :D:D:D

Just as the x-ray said, she has had 6 gorgeous bubbies, 2 boys, 4 girls all red/white… Mum and babies doing very well. They are all nicely marked, weights between 197-256 grams... Delivered between 11.15pm, our time, and 3.15am, so she has done a great job popping them out :)...

Im proud as punch, our first Langarni litter, even if it did seem to take so very long to finally get here ;)...

Off to catch some zzzzzzzzzz, with one eye, and both ears open too :)

  • Yeay!!! Congrats!! Well done Ochre!!! (and humans :D)

Thank you for the replies. Yes, either a total scam or just irresponsible, deceptive and lying individuals trying to make a buck. I am so glad I found this forum. Federico

She's not a member of the Rip Van Wrinkle Club. I did, however, contact the BBB as well as various scammer websites so others who do research on her name or breeding company don't meet the same fate. Also went ahead and contacted the AKC and BCOA, so hopefully something comes of it.

It depends on the cat just as much as it depends on the dog. Does your cat run "prey-like" when frightened? I have 2 cats that have lived with 3 different basenjis. My male cat and my first basenji were pals and often cuddled together. They would wrestle and when the dog got too unruly he'd (the cat) nip him to keep him in line. My female cat ran every time she saw my dog. She was fun to chase and like most basenjis: "thing move, I chase thing!" Cody never ever hurt them and recognized that they were part of his "pack" (for lack of a better term). Cat outside? FORGET IT! He never caught one but boy did he try! My cats no longer live with my dogs (I moved and the cats stayed with my parents) and I know my female cat is much happier. Elliot my 3yr old is OK with my cats but Morgan my 1yr old chases them. Neither try to hurt them but the stress of being chased is a lot for a 15 year old cat to handle. [image: 1469113808168-1003649_10151420270322531_1939276400_n.jpg]

Thanks for the update, Andrea, haven't read anything on the B-list for a while, and I have always admired Vickie. Anne in Tampa

@Kipawa: Boy, I will put my flame retardent suit on here before I say this - in the picture of the four basenjis, well, they look so unhappy. ALL of them. I sympathize with the breeder in that she has some medical/mental restrictions, but the look of the breeding facility frightens me. If she has medical/mental restrictions she should NOT be breeding. And I agree about the conditions of the kennels. They are dirty and unkept. And as said, if there are no papers/unregistered AKC then she should not be breeding.
