thunderbird8588, leasing a dog is done at bit all over the world, but it is quite common in Australia. The owners of this bitch have allowed us to 'lease' her for an indefinate amount of time. We have her here, train her, (well, when I put a bomb under Mr Saba's derriere !!!), feed her, pay Vet costs for routine things, (which reminds me I must get her Vaccinated ;)), pat her entry fee's for shows etc, etc… We paid her flights over here, the breeder pays the flights home. She will be going to the breeder when we go O/S, and if I can prise her away from the breeder, she will be coming back to us when we get home !!!

The agreement I have with her owners is that both parties have her till either,(1) we want to send her back, or (2) her owners want her back. What we will do is at a later stage we will get a bitch off these breeders possibly at some time late in this year, or early next year, for free, depending on their breeding plans.

Her owners are on notice to move fairly soon, depending on work, so for them to have 1 less dog to move is a bonus for them.

Hope that makes some sort of sense...

  • Thanks everyone for the lovely comments, Im such a proud Mummy, and its even a bigger thrill when you have bred them yourself :D…

No we didnt get any pics, cos the 'rules' down here are you really only get pics done for the larger shows, with International judges, or when you win a something under a breed specialist, (and even then its not really encouraged), or for BIS, RUBIS and all the Classes in Show, i.e. Best Baby in Show, Best Intermediate in Show etc, etc…

Congrats on the win Beck! It is always cool for a puppy to win big their first time out.. but Peeps shoulda kicked her butt! I think that Becky is well aware of testing and what is involved. Her Jolly was a performance star and his life was cut short to Fanconi Syndrome. She knows all too well how Fanconi can suck the life out of a basenji. The test was a godsend, and those of us that have lived it, will use the test in and out, backwards and forwards… as it is too serious of an issue to breed against it with wishful or unrealistic thinking. But, there is always a good side to things.... as we type, Benny, Jolly, Data, and Nate.... some true great ones... are all running free, stalking bunnies... and having their girls....

My favorite kind of pooch is a happy, tired, snuggly one, so yes. That and one who is up for a game of tag (when I am not pooped)

@Janneke: I finally have his judge report. I tried to translate it to proper English.. but please correct me if I'm wrong.. Young breed representative of four months. Square construction. Elegant expression. Beautiful topline and outline. Splendid head with beautiful wrinkle formation. Small dark eye. Beautiful straight legs, bit stronger angulation on the hindquarter. Already beautiful forechest. Very well condition with supple skin. Moves gracefully and light-footedly. Already excellent show qualities. Beautiful presentation. I love how your shows have written critiques. This is not done at AKC dog shows so you never really know what the judge thinks about your dog unless they happen to make a comment.
