    Today we went to a Fun Dog show in a local park in aid of Guide Dogs for the blind.
    Malaika won a second for the Dog in best condition and a third for having the most appealing eyes. There was a lot of Dogs in all classes so we think she did very well. Think it helped when she high fived the judge ;)
    We met a man who had a Dog for the disabled and he was telling us the story behind getting his Dog. Apparently the Dog had been badly abused and he needed to do a lot of rehabilitation with him . He is now able to help the man with lots of household tasks and leads a happy life. It was heart warming to see how things have worked out for both Dog and human.

    Congrats to Malaika on her 'wins'. Well done!

    It's just so heartwarming to hear about dogs who help those with disabilities. The fact that the dog was abused makes it extra special. How wonderful that these two met up - probably it was just meant to happen.

    What a lovely story about the abused dog, so nice that it turned out good for that dog eventually.

If the age part is true, the rest is not (unless there's difference between our European bred Basenjis and those in Africa): NARRATOR: Sharing the same curly-tailed trait [as the Akita] is the venerable African Basenji. DEBBYE TURNER: Basenji is the granddad of ancient dogs. However, they’re not that trainable. They will not do obedience tricks like other breeds. Come back here. And here’s an example! NARRATOR: There is something else very wolf-like about a Basenji… SOUND OF DOGS HOWLING NARRATOR: …its yodel. These breeds reveal much about how dogs may have appeared and acted after they first transitioned from pack hunters to scavengers and provide clues as to why they may have first appealed to humans.     I think Oakley sees my point because he will look to the object my hand is touching…most often times at least..he never looks at my face for a cue of to acknowledge my words..if I throw something and tell him to go get it (and he doesn't see the throw)..it's impossible to direct him towards it..he's silly that way- no direction!

    I think I know!!! I think it's Dutch - Abotere's Zahir for Hicel. Oh dear, I speak to this dog at every show :o

    @Forever: Yes we talked to one of the Bs owners right before we left her name was Laura (Tammen's Basenjis) She helped me out alot talking to me about zoe i'm so glad I met her. There was a fuss after the showing that delayed the next breed (a whippet owner was very upset about that) we asked laura about it and she mentioned that about the behavior. Laura is very nice, has very nice Basenjis and is a good breeder….

    That was amazing…he was a gorgeous boy. I'm watching the breed selection video now and all those dogs are beautiful! Of all the B's in the breed video, number 9 (little girl) a tri beauty who stopped to scratch an itch during judging, number 16 (little girl) a black and white, and number 18 (little boy) a red and white are my favorites.They were all beautiful, but those really stuck in my mind. What I found so amusing is that number 9 the one that scratched her itch was the best of breed for our little angels. She did a wonderful job and showed beautifully. She was a great representative of this breed!

    @tanza: Got ya…. and how nice of her to sit up and puke!!! :eek: I am lucky (knock on wood) all mine ride great... crate pads keep them from sliding around and they just sleep anyway.... Sure makes clean-up easier! I used to keep wipes in the car to clean her, esp. before shows! ew. I just layer plastic bags in the trash can, and tie 'em off as used, then toss when we get to where there's an outside trash can. I'd make video to show, but really, that'd be gross :eek: She's really good in her harness, so it works out quite well. As I said, Keoki continues to be my car challenge in terms of how to best travel with him. But he loves going in the car in general.
