Going to National's with Wheat

Off Topic

  • I just found out I can go to the nationals..my Zamba Wheat will be in the african section of the show…so, hopefully, I can meet some of you folks there!

  • Houston

oohh, how I wish I was going..would love to meet you and Miss Wheat..take pictures and share with us, please?

  • Oh, my unmet friend…I have to fall on the kindness of friends to help me post photos.
But I will share what I can. What is really wonderful are the 4 other dogs they brought over from Africa...they are just so neat. I hope the BCOA thinks so as well.
If they do, and the membership likes them, they might be able to help the b's in the future.
Then we all really will be related by dogs!!

  • We'll be there! Planning to arrive Tues. or Wed. Can't wait to meet Ms. Wheat in person, as well as finally meeting you, Sharon!

    Terry

  • Where are the Nationals being held?

  • National is in Greeley, CO this year

  • Sharron, you and Miss Wheat will be great representatives of the Africans. Have a splendid time there!

  • Thanks Fran..if your attending. I will be the round woman with the basenji rescue chair back..oh, yea, I wear a big hat to keep sun off my face.
So, I would love to meet you and chat face to face.

  • If only…....... (sigh)

  • My dream is to fly to England and see all the wonderful b's you have there…so, maybe one day.

  • Does anyone know what the temps/weather is we will be having?

  • Don't worry, Petra. I'll take plenty of pictures of Ms. Wheat for you. :) I will have my camera in hand the entire National (well, except when I'm in the show ring :) ) So I'll make sure and take some pictures if I cross her and Sharron's path.

  • Nemo, if you come by to watch the africans, we can meet and greet. I will take advantage of your kind offer to take photos and share them.
Again, I will be bringing my own chair and on the back of it, it says basenji rescue.
Laugh, I bet there is only one chair like that in the whole place.
A friend posted that the temps will be in the 80's. so the b's will be happy and I will be looking for shade!

Just remember, don't hand the camera to me. :)

Today around 1130a it was 88 in Co Springs as I was out and about. But this is Colorado, so just to be safe, bring all of your clothes as it might be in the 90's or it might snow, or it might do both in during the week. It's best to be prepared. <gg>Okay, probably NOT any snow, but it may be chilly in the evenings, so bring a light sweater (jumper if you're coming from the other side of the pond) or jacket (heavier if you're from Floridia) and mostly summer clothes and you should be fine. Otherwise, you can always go shopping.</gg>

Luckily your mom is there too. :)

  • Well, I just was informed by my travel friend Lisa, I will be "showing" Wheat, when Lisa shows her red girl.GROAN! I love watching this..but heavens…I am not into showing and Wheat hasn't be trained to being. show..sooooooo
It will be a good grin for all who wish to watch.
What the heck....my girl is wonderful...just look at her and not at me!!!

  • Oh, you'll be fine. And everyone will be rooting for you. The stock exhibition is more laid back from my impression last year. Plus a number of the imports I've seen aren't that fond of being shown or don't have that much experience so the owners don't seem to worry about it too much and just try to make it pleasant for the dog.

  • Sharron, I know you have it in you! You and Miss Wheat will draw the most clapping, I am sure of it!

We were in Ohio when I wrote it. Ohio was admitted to the Union on March 1, 1803, but Congress apparently forgot to vote on the resolution. It was finally rectified on August 7, 1953, which technically makes Ohio the 47th state. However, it is counted as the 17th because it wasn't Ohioans who created the problem. Who says our Federal government isn't efficient? Zanesville, OH is the location of the Y Bridge, which starts and ends on the same side of the river. But that's where we were. The wolverine is the official state animal and nickname of the state. Fur trappers from Canada brought pelts across the state and folks further south assumed (there's that word again) the pelts were trapped in Michigan. The Detroit Red Wings assembled the Russian Five, who propelled the Hockey team to the Stanley Cup in 1997. Within a few days of the win, one of the team members was permanently benched in an auto accident, but the remaining four were instrumental in the 1998 and 2002 Stanley Cup wins for the Red Wings. We will be in Grand Rapids, MI tomorrow morning. Ms. Basenjimamma: The temperature here right now is 51F. :)

I've been trying to do that…it's not as easy to reach the distinctive landmarks with a semi as with other vehicles, including RV's. All the really cool places have signs up that say "No Trucks" and it really bums me out. I understand, though, because there are so many truck drivers who just throw their trash where ever they want instead of find a garbage can. And they pee on the ground rather than expend the extra energy to walk 75 feet into the bathroom. Trucker areas reek to an eye-watering level in hot areas because of this. But I do try to find distinctive landmarks when I can...the little lake in Minnesota, the rock formation in Colorado, coastal trees in North Carolina.... I will try to find more landmarks I can access.

@Maya: If you're living in Holland, you need a Friesian!!! :D I have the most wonderful friesian, her temperment is amazing. She's not even 3 yet but she is just so sweet and gentle!! But, do keep us updated. I've had horses since i was 3 and they are a huge part of my life. I couldnt be without them even though im not as involved in the horse world as i once was!! P.S. I have some photos from a show over here in the UK with shires in their traditional plaits and tack if anyone is interested in seeing them. Its just amazing!! Yes!! I love to see the pictures!!! I like the Friesian horses but it's not a breed wich can used for lots of things, they are to special i think :D I like the Friesian for shows and as a barouche horse (is it a good word?) I once ride a Friesian and it's different with riding a normal or western horse. They make larger steps and it's very comfortable riding! A friend of us breeds the Friesian :D @moetmum: That sounds exciting, hope it all goes to plan. Our neighbouring farmer used to breed shire horses, they don't breed now but still have loads of horses. They go to loads of shows, they were sponsored by a local brewery. The horses are fascinated by the basenjis, and always want to come and have a look! the b's aren't keen when they snort at them though. I have never heard of a horse milking farm before!! Wow!!! If it was a little bit near Holland, I really would come over to met you and take a look at the shires next door :D:D We're don't going to live in Holland :D In Germany they have also some very nice breeds Hannoveraan, holsteiner (i don't know the english names…0
