My dogs are secured in crates or the bedroom (Rotties were okay behind a gate, I'd never trust my basenjis with one) if the door is open. Every time, every single time, for my entire adult life. So yeah, dog bolts, the person failed to secure the dog. Unless some person enters if you don't know it, tree falls on house, burglar comes in, police raid your house by mistake etc… if YOU open a door, YOU are responsible, not the dog.

Folks, If you are unsure whether a particular thread content violates forum guidelines just email admin@basenjiforums.com and we will take it from there. To protect our forum members and ourselves we encourage rescue organizations and individuals to please send us a private message to admin@basenjiforums.com before posting ANY donation solicitations, fundraiser ideas or any Basenji Forums community related commercial activity involving money collection. Fundraising introduces unnecessary complexity and liability for Basenji Forums Staff, so we are very strict and sensitive about this subject regardless how long a particular member has been on the forum. Too many people get scammed into donating for various non existing causes and money gets stolen from honest good meaning folks on the internet all the time. When that happens operators of internet resources that host the donation solicitation inadvertently become part of the legal proceedings by people who are upset about their money being stolen for facilitating the theft. We have no desire or disposable funds to participate in that. We provide this resource free of charge to Basenji owners community. In return we ask our members to respect our rules and guidelines. Thank you, Regards, BF Staff

As time passes, the routine requires change. Puppies need more attention and bigger space (and make more poo…). The adults runs will also need to be moved. They are ready for more space and will need more airflow now that we are moving into the summer months in FL (the original set-up provided them more protection from the wind during our unusually cold winter). Hopefully, I will be able to set up a schedule to allow help from those that have offered - so much has been last-minute due to constantly changing needs. It will be much easier to accommodate drop-in help when they are in a larger area. Margaret, Anne, B. Ann and Debbi have been doing a wonderful job of attending to many details of coordinating that I simply don't have time to do right now - home visits, vet reference checks and placements suggestions all lined up so that I can just say yea or nay. Thanks to their efforts and many other volunteers who are doing the home visits, we have placed 8 of the first 9 younger pups, 3 of the 5 five month old pups and one adult. JR has taken on Aisha, a b mom who has been going through culture shock in DC. We will be posting pups from the next litters shortly. Given that there are so many pups and so many homes that have been waiting for pups, the first batch was placed without posting to relieve demands on my time. Though the pups are remarkably well-balanced and similar (adopters have commented on how cuddly they are!), they do show personality differences. Placement decisions are still based on who fits each pup's needs. If you are interested in a pup and haven't already done so, please submit your application now by following the appropriate links at http://basenjirescue.org/ApplDB/AdoptForm.htm . You can express interest in a pup when they are posted, but early apps allow us to be better prepared by getting home visits done early. As always, I greatly appreciate everyone's support. Pam Hamilton FL District Coordinator Advisory Director Basenji Rescue and Transport A note from Debbi Johnson: If you are interested in adopting one of these basenjis, please submit an adoption application with BRAT. You will be added to an email list which gives notices of available basenjis. Before long, this group from Florida will be listed for adoption. BRAT strives to select the best home for each basenji we have in rescue. If you are interested in fostering, please stay tuned for another update coming to you soon. Each basenji that has left the group has gone home in a crate provided by BCOA. Thanks again to the members of BCOA! So far, basenjis from this group have traveled to new homes in Washington DC, VA, IN, AL, CA, and some have stayed in FL. Plans have been made for others to go to CT, NJ, KY, GA, LA, and NY. We appreciate your interest and support in the rescue of the Wimauma basenjis. Debbi Johnson BRAT Treasurer & Director Germantown, TN debbijbasenjirescue@comcast.net

Dear Basenji Forums Community, I am sure many of you have been wondering what was the outcome of this rescue effort. Well, let us tell you it was unexpected. A rescue mission that was supposed to unite our community to help save a dog turned into a complete opposite and brought us apart. I would like to thank everyone who stepped in to help and put their time and money to attempt to save this dog and offer him a life without neglect. Members who volunteered themselves for this mission had many years of experience with the breed, with both ill-tempered rescues, and those that have been fabulous. They had enough experience to make a determination whether to attempt this or not. While this dog had issues it is imperative to keep in mind he was a just a puppy, and someone was willing to give him a chance. Others may have disagreed on the reasoning for attempting this, but at no time they were given the right to derail this mission and use this forum to publicly attack and discredit members whose only intentions were to help save this dog. As a result of the actions of certain members our whole community suffered: The dog was not saved Forum rules about code of conduct were broken Existing members were publicly offended and discredited New members were exposed to public arguments Our community lost potential member referrals Members had to be suspended from the forum It is really too bad and sad, because we built this community to bring together basenji owners, breeders, and exhibitors throughout the world. To be hopeful that they could help one another and dogs in need. Thank you again for trying to help. All donation have been refunded and no more assistance will be attempted. Which, of course, is unfortunate for the basenji in need. As a last note please remember to review our forums code of conduct and forum rules and to treat others with utmost respect. Like the Basenjis, each of us is unique with our unique character, but our admiration and respect for this breed have brought us together and make us a community. Disregard for our forum community rules will not be tollerated on this forum. Please contact Basenji Forums staff directly at admin@basenjiforums.com if you have any questions or concerns. This thread is closed for public discussion.
