My father in law has cared for these dogs for years now and has suddenly developed sevier Alzheimers. We are seeking a caring family atmosphere to house these animals for the remainder of their life. They are about 10 years old give or take a few years. I will get more information once things settle out. The doctors told us that he would not be able to go back home based on his condition and just wants someone that will love and care for the dogs.

  • Did you email the poster?

  • no, i'm in colorado

  • Sorry, I didn't mean reply to adopt her, I meant to find out that there were 2 basenjis (i didn't see a number given) or to ask if they know who the breeder is, etc.

  • I'm in Knoxville and volunteer for BRAT so I emailed the owner a link to contact BRAT if he/she is interested in getting help re-homing this pair. I'll let you know if I get a response.

  • I wanted to let you know that i did hear back from the person who posted the Craigslist ad. He sent back a really nice reply that said he was still making some tough decisions in regards to his father and that if he decided he needed any more help he would let me know. He at least has all the info to contact BRAT and my email if he has any more follow up questions.

You did all you could do for now and thank you. I do so hope he gets back to you nothing mean here but if alzheimers is really bad the dogs are not safe with him anymore. Thank you again for tyring to help.

My dogs are secured in crates or the bedroom (Rotties were okay behind a gate, I'd never trust my basenjis with one) if the door is open. Every time, every single time, for my entire adult life. So yeah, dog bolts, the person failed to secure the dog. Unless some person enters if you don't know it, tree falls on house, burglar comes in, police raid your house by mistake etc… if YOU open a door, YOU are responsible, not the dog.

My old fanconis boy just wouldn't take the pills. I tried to hide them in everything, and he would just roll the "item" around in his mouth and spit out the pill. But your so right. Getting dogs to take treats, in one gulp is a life saver!
