LOL, "flapping" when the dog wakes up to resettle is bad enough without jingling too! None of my dogs has ever worn a collar in the house. We say "You're going out. Time to put on your collar & tie" (my horses only wear halters when necessary as well)
I find this very interesting as chemicals are used in some dog flea preparations that are banned in agriculture in the UK. I only use natural products since a dog of mine had a very severe reaction to Frontline.
This really is so sad, it sounds like she has family and friends around her who will help her get through this. To lose your husband, your home and your dog is just too much.
This woman will be in my thoughts and prayers.
