Lost basenji in New Philadelphia, Ohio

Lost and Found Basenjis
  • Hi all. Just a quick update…still no Dot. I hope for her return everyday. Sorry to not have visited lately...but I cry when I write to you all....I'm able to talk about her without losing it now. Bart and Holly, thank you....and I do call everyone in the paper who finds any small dog...I think I helped a Jack Russell get back home becuz I saw both the lost and found ads...that was a great feeling. I hope all your Bs are safe and warm!

  • Still saying prayers. Hang in there. You cannot have miracles without the bad stuff…. ( got that from a 10 year old student in my class) . :)

  • The paper should have an archive dept. Call them and tell them what you are looking for, they should have it, or the library might. It's worth a shot.

  • Sorry you haven't found Dot yet, have you tried an appeal on a local radio station?

  • I am so sorry you haven't found Dot yet….she is out there..call a couple a towns over, tehse dogs move fast and far if they are frazzled, Nobarkus, saw that weith Buddy..
Sending good vibes and hope she will be home with you again.

  • Hope she comes home soon. Hugs and prayers going your way.

  • So sorry you have not found Dot yet. I agree, she's out there somewhere. They are very handsome dogs, even when they are dirty (which is rare, given their need for cleanliness). Someone may have seen her running around and thought she was a stray and was in the mood to get a dog….happenstance. Even so, it does take a special owner to have a Basenji (we wouldn't be on this site if it didn't). Keep checking the Humane society, SICSA, any pet rescues in your area (or even farther afield), just everywhere. Even if she was taken in by someone, they will either give her up because she's a Basenji (because of the behavior issues) or they will do resarch on what they have and may end up here (on the forum) anyway.:)

  • I am praying for Dot's return. God knows exactly where she is and I am believing that he will make the neccessary connections to bring her home!

Psalm 36:6 Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the great deep. O LORD, you preserve both man and beast.

  • Just thought I would update….it's been awhile. Dot has not come home. I hope her life now is better than it was with us. We still miss you babydot! Love always, Enzo, Gino, Sophi, Femi and mom

  • I am so sorry she is not with you still..I just hope she is safe and sound..

  • Thanks for the update. I am so sorry you haven't got Dot back.

  • I am so very sorry that you never found Dot. My heart goes out to you.

  • I'm so sorry you haven't found Dot.

  • Check BRAT's site frequently. Somebody might have tried to give her a good home for the past several weeks and then give her up now that it is colder. It is difficult for coordinators to keep in mind every lost dog notice but we do have a policy to post all the "found" dogs to the web site.

  • oh this thread just breaks my heart! I hope you are reunited with Dot…..

A good "safety" exercise to practice is a command that tells your dog treats are in the offing, and use it at irregular intervals when you are walking. Combine the command with a total release of pressure on the leash, preferably when your dog has firm tension on said leash. Then if something unexpected happens you have a built in reaction of the dog to look to you for a reward. This won't work if your dog is pursuing a major distraction, but should give you an edge if you have an equipment failure in otherwise neutral conditions. (you can carry this one step further by "accidentally" dropping the leash in a controlled area, or with a light line attached for safety, and practice until the dog turns to you when it feels a total release)

Thanks for the update MacPack. A great ending to the story. If you see Kaisers folks again, tell them we all send our well wishes to them and their dogs.
