  • oh the amount of liquid i give is 7.5 ml at a time and they both weight 29lbs. or you can give one tablet. i usually just keep a few bottles of the liquid and give them both that. just easier. plus the other one thinks he is being cheated if he doesnt get peanutbutter and pumpkin, too. hhaha
if your dog is a different size you might need a different dose…. but i asked the vet if there was anything else to do and he said this ws probably the best/easiest thing to do. It does work....sometimes i dont wait the entire 8 hours... that works.

  • For on the road the easiest to make bland diet is to buy the baby food rice cereal that you just add water to and jars of baby food meat.

  • that is a great idea! and easy too. i bet theY would LOVE it. how much of each?

  • I just eyeball it so I am not sure how much I really use of each in a sitting. The other thing I like about using the rice cereal is that if you are worried about dehydration you can at extra water.

  • And not unusal for first time bitches in season to have a bit of diarrhea, especially with some travel and a show on top of it…. She should bouce back pretty quickly and immodium is very safe to use also....

  • My vet gave me some packets of Purina (vet diet) FortiFlora, "a powder with live active cultures, a nutritional support for dogs with diarrhea, promotes a healthy immune system". Basically yougurt in powder form, just sprinkle on the food and tummy gets better overnight.
For an emergency, Immodium should do the trick too.

Interesting. Kananga is anxious time to time, so his stools usually show his stress level. I've been looking for something to add into his food to help his digestion. I'll have to try that out sometime.

  • My Ziggy occasionally gets diarrhea - when that happens, I give him only his regular raw food (Steve's Real Food, frozen chunks) with nothing else like vegetables mixed in. The raw food diet keeps his stools firm.

I do wonder if anyone notices their B's health changing when the weather is hot … ? It's been 90-100 degrees in the last week, and Ziggy has had two instances of irregular BMs. He gets me up at about 5 AM and needs to poop. It's like he just can't hold it until the regular time that we all get up and go out for a walk (around 7 AM). Nothing in his diet or daily routine has changed, just the temperature. Any ideas?

  • I think you might be on to something with the heat. I noticed more loose BM's when it is extremely hot. I just put imodium in their pumpkin sometimes 2 doses a day, imodium, not pumpkin, they just get that once a day.

  • I am so glad I happened on this thread! We are leaving for an extended trip and the idea of the baby rice cereal and meats is a wonderful suggestion - I am right now in the process of trying to get my girl over a diahrrea problem - have been making the hamburg/rice/cottage cheese up, but as was said, on the road that will be a problem. This Forum is a great place for help, and thanks, guys/girls.

@AJs: Wow. I guess AJ has a cast-iron stomach. He only gets loose when he gets ahold of something off the ground. Or if I mistakenly feed him pork. He eats Pinnacle with a little gravy or occasionally a raw egg. Hope your girl feels better soon. Not unusual for the girls to go off a bit when they are coming in season… least not in my experience But to answer Petra's question, I have not seen that it would really be an indication

You could try a little yogurt. Cook up some yams in place of the rice.

@Janneke: Yeah, last week we also thought it was a bite.. but it's pretty weird that it happens twice during training.. and nowhere else. Actually, it sounds to me like there is either a bug or plant or something at where you train that he is allergic to. The fact that the reaction happens very specifically when you go to one location would tend to support that there is something at that location that he is allergic to.
