Quick question–diarrhea

Basenji Health Issues & Questions
  • Akeyla has had diarrhea for a day now and I have read all the threads I can about diarrhea but I still have a question. I withheld food for 12 hours and then feed her chicken and rice last night. She doesn't seem to care much for the rice just the chicken. So…my quesion is can I replace the rice with plain oatmeal?
Also I didnt change anything about her diet to cause this frequent diarrhea however she is not going quite as much as yesterday. So any other advice anyone can give me will help.
    Thanks!!

  • You could try a little yogurt. Cook up some yams in place of the rice.

@Patty: Your pictures may be too big in resolution… try to re-size them to a smaller size and then re-posting? For the record, the Purina pro-biotics are called Forti-Flora, by prescription use only (but GIVEN to me by my vet for Lola)... Not so, I have purchased Forti-Flora via the internets for quite a while. So not just by prescription

I totally agreee with Pat - the vet should know what's going on. Also the fact that the diarrhoea is black is a cause for concern, in my opinion.

Who would have thought that worms were so interesting. My farm vet insists that dogs be wormed monthly but mine are on a weekly homeopathic wormer. I'm so pleased that Nahla has got rid of hers. And i accept what others have said about the possibility of a pup womitting up a worming tablet.

Puppies usually "blow" their baby coat after teething and the color fo the coat will change at time…. So yes their coats to change, but not a lot... just like some pedigrees have black masking aroung the face (muzzle and eyes) that will fade with age. Also on Basenjis, the white never changes size... so a big white spot will be much smaller when full grown. Looking at the picture of your Kona, I would say that the white between his eyes was almost the entire area between the eyes when born
