Congratulations to (repeat) BOB winner Ch Klassis Ms Mata Hauri,JC (who is a Dual Champion now so DC) and Best of Opp, Ch Klassic's Slam Dunk (who is BOB's younger sib from another litter)… Good luck in the Group tonight....
Our Kylie, who we will be breeding this year is also a littermate to Klassy and Dunkin

Wow, Sue must be on cloud nine! Klassic basenjis surely do well at Westminster!
-
Well the basenji was pulled out in the semi-finals (yay) but didn't make best of hounds (boo). But at least it didn't go to the pbgv (I think it went to the Irish wolfhound).

Nope…the Scottish Deerhound (Tiger Woods :D) won.

I believe they are related to my Maya Klassy is Mayas mum's sister? I think
I watched the hound group judging online, some beautiful dogs there. Nice to see a basenji in the final cut

Nice to hear that Klassy is a DC now. I'm usually on the lookout for coursing titles at the ends or beginnings of the sighthound names when they flash on the screen, with low expectations. I think it really says something when a dog has been shown to excel at what it was breed to do in addition to having great conformation. Every now and again I hear coursing people (who also show) bemoaning all the sighthounds in the ring who could not course to save their lives. At the same time I understand the hesitance to have your top winning show dog engage in anything where there's potential for injury.
-
You know that is funny about injury… Mine got hurt more often at home in the yard then they ever did coursing. And most of mine got their coursing titles before they got their conformation titles.... so I never really worried about it that much.. of course I was not paying the high dollars to promote and/or show a top dog either... ggg

I find this amusing…especially the people bemoaning the "sighthounds in the ring who could not course to save their lives"...how would they know if the dogs could course or not if the dogs have never been run.
People make choices in how they spend their money and time. Just because one person chooses to participate in one activity with their dog and not another does not make one type of competition better than the other. IMHO I think all people that spend time bonding and working with their dogs should be commended...doesn't matter if it is conformation, coursing, agility, obedience, home training or just taking your dog for daily walks and runs.

Congrats to the B owners. Well done!! Thanks for representing the breed so well!!
On the other hand, the talking heads at Westminster really cheeze me off sometimes. ie…'Here's the sporting group, these are best companion/family dogs in the AKC'
Arrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggg

Ah yes… but remember, we really don't want our breed "to stand out".... might get way to popular

I might not have phrased that so well. I think that the comments I have heard (from borzoi people) about sighthound show dogs and coursing had to do with their build being not so conducive to the function of the breed, something about them being heavier boned. It's not that they can't course. Maybe they're being bred only to show.
IMHO herding dogs that can herd, scenthounds that can track, sighthounds that can course in addition to conforming to the standard really make for an all around talented dog. I don't mean to demean any activity that anyone does with their dog. -
I loved the video of the basenjis! But also the one of the Pharaoh hounds…!! Just beautiful...!
-
Too bad they can't have better announcers for the show - the lady announcer (tennis champ) didn't know anything anything about dogs.
-
Was the tennis champs name Sukova? She actually owns a basenji and showed it at Crufts in 2005.
-
She was Mary Carillo.

Well, David Frei knows just about everything about dogs I think they have the 'other' person be kind of clueless so that he can illucidate to the regular joe watching TV, and his co-host at the same time. If both people were dog experts, it would probably be really boring for the general public
At least she wasn't silly, and asking really dumb questions. I thought she did a nice job, she really seemed to enjoy herself! In fact, towards the end, I thought there might have been some alcohol involved they were so giddy

I saw the popularity ranking of AKC breeds earlier this week. Basenjis are 80ish out of 160 if I recall correctly? Right smack in the middle where we draw the least attention to ourselves!
-
Well, I'll tell you I got the shock of my life during the dog show. When my DH saw that beautiful tri girl Mata Hauri he fell in love with her markings! And even though I know that I showed him all the different pics of the different colors of basenjis before, he claimed he "did not know of a tri colored basenji." I guess pictures just don't do justice to the breed!!! Kudos to the Klassics… I do have to say, little Miss Mata Hauri was a thing of beauty out there in the ring!
-
Yes, and Klassy is even better in person!
