@JENGOSMonkey I WAS THERE FOR '89! I was a kid, but I remember the water coming out of the swimming pool in huge waves and everything falling from the shelves! I was actually born in San Jose, but moved around a lot later LOL I hear the wildfires are more of a concern for you guys now? That's scarier than quakes for me...

Congrats to the B owners. Well done!! Thanks for representing the breed so well!!
On the other hand, the talking heads at Westminster really cheeze me off sometimes. ie…'Here's the sporting group, these are best companion/family dogs in the AKC'
Arrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggg
Ah yes… but remember, we really don't want our breed "to stand out".... might get way to popular

.how would they know if the dogs could course or not if the dogs have never been run.
I might not have phrased that so well. I think that the comments I have heard (from borzoi people) about sighthound show dogs and coursing had to do with their build being not so conducive to the function of the breed, something about them being heavier boned. It's not that they can't course. Maybe they're being bred only to show.
IMHO herding dogs that can herd, scenthounds that can track, sighthounds that can course in addition to conforming to the standard really make for an all around talented dog. I don't mean to demean any activity that anyone does with their dog. -
I loved the video of the basenjis! But also the one of the Pharaoh hounds…!! Just beautiful...!
-
Too bad they can't have better announcers for the show - the lady announcer (tennis champ) didn't know anything anything about dogs.
-
Was the tennis champs name Sukova? She actually owns a basenji and showed it at Crufts in 2005.
-
She was Mary Carillo.

Well, David Frei knows just about everything about dogs I think they have the 'other' person be kind of clueless so that he can illucidate to the regular joe watching TV, and his co-host at the same time. If both people were dog experts, it would probably be really boring for the general public
At least she wasn't silly, and asking really dumb questions. I thought she did a nice job, she really seemed to enjoy herself! In fact, towards the end, I thought there might have been some alcohol involved they were so giddy

I saw the popularity ranking of AKC breeds earlier this week. Basenjis are 80ish out of 160 if I recall correctly? Right smack in the middle where we draw the least attention to ourselves!

Well, I'll tell you I got the shock of my life during the dog show. When my DH saw that beautiful tri girl Mata Hauri he fell in love with her markings! And even though I know that I showed him all the different pics of the different colors of basenjis before, he claimed he "did not know of a tri colored basenji." I guess pictures just don't do justice to the breed!!! Kudos to the Klassics… I do have to say, little Miss Mata Hauri was a thing of beauty out there in the ring!

Yes, and Klassy is even better in person!
