It Took Me 1.5 years of looking and talking to breeders before I was able to get on the waiting list in time to get a pup. You have to start preparing and talking to breeders in the early fall in order to get on the reservation list for a puppy by next spring
Looking for a Red/White Female in Forida

On one hand, your b-girl is in ill health and, regardless of her demeanor right now, might not appreciate a puppy "bothering" her. On the other hand, maybe she'd enjoy having a puppy around to teach and "carry on," so to speak. Are you absolutely certain it must be a rambunctious puppy?
In any case, I'm sorry your Misty may be saying farewell in the not-too-distant future. That's a lovely photo of the three of you. I'm sure you've taken all the perspectives to heart, and I wish you much luck in finding another b-brat to love and cherish.
I've no breeder info to offer you, but I'm sure others will pipe up.

Its true that some seniors aren't happy to have a puppy bothering them.
I so hope you find just the right match for your home and old dear girl. -
Have you looked at this site? And Robyn is on the Forum… http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Ranch/8575/

Wow, you sound like a great Basenji home. I wish I had something for you, but I am too far away, and not doing a breeding this year. Have you tried Sherwood Basenjis in Georgia (Robyn, are you reading this?)
GBroxon has a point that you might run into some trouble introducing a young girl puppy to an oldster. But you know your dog best, and maybe she wouldn't mind. She would definitely need long periods to rest and get away from the puppy…they are relentless!

That is a lovely family portrait, Misty looks very sweet. Robin would be a wonderful choice, and if she doesn't have anything for you there is another breeder in south Georgia, Undercover Basenjis.
My old Ginger was 14 when I got Topper at 1 1/2, they liked each other but he was way too active for her! A puppy might be too much for an older girl who isn't feeling well, but you know your girl better than anyone! Good luck in your quest.

You never know how they will react to a puppy and the biggest thing is that your breeder knows what you have already… if you get a fairly laid back pup... they can get along quite well

If you did not get a response you may want to email again, or even try giving a call. I recently had about 20 emails show up in my box that were 5 months old! I have no idea where they have been for the last 5 months but it once again reminded me if I don't hear from someone, I should be sure to send a follow up because sometimes emails just go astray, lost in cyberspace.
As for adding a puppy into a household with an older dog, just make sure that you make her part of the process. Be sure the puppy has lots of outlets for its energy other than pestering her and be flexible so that your puppy is the right match for the household.
I have two Sherwood basenjis so will also add in a good word for Robyn and her dogs. Nicky will be 11 in December and Rally will be 8 and both great companions.

Robyn is an excellent breeder and would be a great person to contact. I also know that Gale Whitehurst in Thomasville, GA has some litters and Susan Schroeder in the Gainsville area is working closely with her. They would certainly be able to get a puppy to you. I know there is at least one litter on the ground, with I think 9 pups. There were plans for at least 1 more litter for sure. I'm sure they would have something available. My dogs go back to some of these dogs and they all have wonderful temperaments. Gale and Susan are also wonderful people to work with. I'm not sure if their contact info is on the BCOA site, but let me know if you would like to get in touch with them. Parents have been fanconi tested.

My mother has two of Gale's dogs. They both have great temperments and are champions. I would highly recommend her. Best of luck in your search!

Gale does have wonderful dogs.
You will be lucky to get one of hers. -
I don't know where in Fl you are, but when my friend Ginny got her Jack (was Garth Brooks) from Gale, she met us halfway in Gainsville, Fl to hand him over. He was about 16 months old and she had decided not to keep him in her breeding program and he was very reasonable. He was Ginny's first male dog, and she adores him. He is 5 now and has eternal 'puppy brains', is such a sweetheart.

She renamed him? From Garth Brooks to Jack? OOOOOH, NOOOOOO, THAT'S SOOO WRONG! (Sorry, I'm a huge Garth Brooks fan–even my screen name reflects my fanaticism!)

Hahaha. I never knew the gb stood for Garth Brooks! He is certainly awesome
I got my boy from Midge Greenlee, who is in Ocala Florida & listed on the BCOA website. Although I don't think she's planning to have a little this year [as she kept 2 pups from last years!] she may be able to help you find a breeder in the area. She's been in the basenji breeding clan for a long time & is very helpful & knowledgable! Good luck finding your pup & be sure to post pictures if/when you get one
-
Ginny isn't a Garth fan, but Jack was named for Jack of the White Stripes, as Jack has a wide white stripe on his face. Made sense to Ginny, anyway!

I have Dallas's brother Nike, and he is great…if you call eating over $1000 worth of shoes, bugging his sis B Mia when she sleeps, trying to eat her food, digging holes in the back yard, etc. But I would never trade him for the world! he has a great temperment with people, loves to cuddle (lives for it actually) and has the cutest face!
I got Mia from Tommy in Orange city. She is so calm, the only downside of her temperment is that she does not like to be woken up lol...typical girl
She was the runt of the litter, and I actually chose her despite this fact.
He has his pups in May and will probably have one last litter in 09 and then retire the parents. He has 2 red/white (Bonnie and Clyde), but Mia is tri, and his last litter had a mixture of both. Let me know if you want his contact info. -
There is a red and white 2 month old female puppy at the St. Pete SPCA right now.
-
I am in Florida and have two brother and sister brn/whit they have some mix, don't know what? but they are both puppies 14 weeks old
just took them to the vet yesterday for puppy shots, email me if you are still looking and will consider a mix, cabrerajo@msn.com and will send pictures. -
The breeder that I worked with is in Wisconsin. I was lucky enough to be able to drive to her and visit in person. Wonderful gorgeous dogs, great breeder. You can get an airline ticket, costs about the same for you to go round trip as shipping a pup. I found her ad on puppyfind after a long 1 + year search for the perfect pup. I have visited a total of 5 breeders in person before choosing my perfect pup.

FWIW, they never contacted me or I could have helped them out. After a single post though they may not even be on the forum anymore.
