Looking for a red and white puppy 🐶

    We live in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and have been looking to add a member to our family. The breeder I visited and selected will not have any puppies available until 2022... it is way too long for us to wait! I am ready to travel to go and meet a breeder that will have puppies available this year or beginning of next year. We have done all appropriate research and are very serious about having a Basenji in our caring and loving family. Thank you for any help that can be provided.

    Hi Genny,
    Try Teri Cuzzetto of Takari's Basenjis. She's in Gresham, Oregon and last I heard still has a R & W boy left from her litters. She's on FB if you want to see photos.
    She's a reputable breeder and her lines consist of champion show dogs.
    Let her know Helen referred you and good luck!

    Also from that region, Jumoke Basenji, Bryan and Laurie Gregory - he is president of BCOA, so you'll be getting top shelf puppies :crossed_fingers_medium-light_skin_tone:
    A girl was still available last month.

    This is not the time of year to look for a Basenji in the Northern Hemisphere, let alone in Kent ! One breeder from there is reputed to have said he had enough advance orders for 4 years after the last year's rush to buy a Basenji ! But you could (maybe) get on a waiting list for next March delivery. Email me privately (address in websites on signature block) for a list of breed club secretaries.

    While American breeders do indeed often rehome Basenjis once they have finished, ie. become a champion, this is far less prevalent in Europe. Post me privately - my email address is on my website listed in my signature block - and I will put you in touch with breeders for next winter's crop of puppies

Did you check for yourself at www.ofa.org as DNA tests for Fanconi/PRA are public posted for the results. If not you should have your girl tested. It is a cheek swab that you do yourself. You can order it at www.ofa.org and the cost is 65.00 for each test (Fanconi & PRA)

    It depends on the breeder. I come from Rottweiler breeding background... we expose puppies to loud noises, really loud, uneven sources, temp changes, etc etc. Getting one at 8 wks, start off slow. I am sort of shaking my head... grew up around hunters and dogs and none cared... but that was the norm. I did find what looks like a reasonable article that might help. Also, I know you are set on a male... but have you considered an older rescue? Brat, CampBasenji and other rescues might have the perfect dog for you if no puppies are available.     Hi, I talked to my daughter last night and she really does not want me to find him another home, even though he's making her sick, (she's allergic to him). She threatened to leave home if I did. She's 18 so she could. I guess we will try and keep him. The good news is I did find a place that will pick up and drop off dogs, take them for long walks in the woods, and let them play with other dogs for the day. All for just $17.00 a day. So at least he's not in a crate for 9 hours any more and he seems to really enjoy it. He runs to the person right away and is excited to go and comes back very happy and tired.

    Please make sure the puppies you sell are clear of fanconis. Its an awfull illness and no one wants to have a sick dog.
