Hey everyone… I am new here to this site but have been eyeing it for a while..
Let me give you some information
Im 22 years old, Live in the suburbs and in an very spacious apartment..With two small cats. Currently me and my fiance' are looking to relocate to a house. For over 6 months i have been searching for a Basenji and really am looking for help.
I have learned a great deal about the breed and am fascinated with them.. I love how mischievous they are, JUST LIKE ME!, and would really like to invite the dog into my family with my fiance.
I will keep him/her active and be able to run everyday with them.
I would like to know what are some process's about going and finding a basenji...? I live in charleston wv by the way everyone..
Anywho thank you for your wonderful help and god Bless.

Hello, I live quite near you in WV and know of very little Basenjis in our area! I am fascinated on how you became interested in the breed. They are an amazing dog! I have a red & white female who is almost three years old and she is something else!!! We love her dearly… despite the stubborn nature!;) As far as finding a Basenji for your family, I wonder if you are wanting a puppy or would you be up for a "somewhat older pup"? If you are considering anything other than a puppy then you may want to look at rescues. Basenji Rescue and Trasport (BRAT) has available rescues that need good homes. Please let us know how things turn out, especially me... we might get to meet sometime?!?!

Honestly, a well trained dog would probably be more suitable for me. But Through proper training/classes i believe a pup could be matured also…
This is for me and my fiance' i love this breed a friend had one about 6 years ago but they moved away. I love this breed thought so energetic and mischievous thats the thing I love about them the most--- they are just like me---
how did you go about finding your dog?
-
If you can find a dog show in your area, its a good place to meet breeders.
Brat does have some wonderful basenjis to rehome, so young enough to deal with cats…
Some older dogs, not raised with cats will see them as prey...
So you want to be careful for your kitties.
But welcome and let us know if we can help you in anyway. -
It was posted in another thread but there is an available adult in Virginia.

There is also an adult available from a breeder in NC though he has some strings.

There are also some older puppies available in Maryland.

how did you go about finding your dog?
I went about finding her in the "wrong way"… a pet store:( Long story, she was a gift from my husband for my birthday. I don't promote pet store puppies now that I know more about them. That is why I suggest BRAT, or a very reputable breeder! By the way, I hope you have a extremely keen sense of humor... the Basenji requires it!!! LOL:D

So it seems I think I have found one.
Princeton WV at mercer animal shelter… They believe it is a besanji/mix breed
hes 4-1/2 months or around that according to them..
what do you guys think?
-
I would think more of a Jack or Parson Russell Terrier and/or Rat Terrier…. but very cute...
-
well..
I do know of the CUTEST little B mix - it doesn't sound like he barks either
in VAhttp://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=11956340
He is sooo adorable, and seems like a super great boy from what the shelter says. If lived in the states I would snag him up! maybe you could give him a great home?
-
He is very cute, but doesn't really look like a Basenji mix… more like a
Shar-pei mix, particularly by the shape of the face.... but very cute -
Very cute pup…I am looking forward to seeing the photos when he is grown up.
-
I do not think she is a basenji mix, I went and got her today and she is beautiful although she doesnt mark she only whines…
Shes very hyper not sure but I am very happy right now with her...
here is another picture..
-
oh, she is very, very cute.
Let us know how it goes with her. -
I will i got her from the human society i wonder if she is part basenji… she looks it and sqeels instead of barkes... has yet to bark once in 4 hours since weve had her..
-
A cute little pup but she looks like she needs to put on some weight and if they didn´t deworm her then that too.Good luck with the littleone:)
-
she is very tall… she needs dewormed and spayed getting that done this weekend... She has her rabies since she was picked from the pound..
-
She should fill out once on a good quality food and with lots of love.
Glad she found you. -
So am I and after taking her to the vet today seems we think we have come up with type of breed she is…
We believe she is a pitbull beagle mix...
here are some reference pics what do you think...?
heres sophie again
and here are pitbull beagle mixes…
What do you guys think…???

For about $70, you can get a DNA test and know for sure! She could be a Beagle-Pit mix, those you show are all pretty cute too. She is darling, whatever she is!

She's a cutie. Doesn't look like pit or beagle to me, and not exactly basenji either, but with the long legs and brindle coat she could have some greyhound or whippet in her (hard to tell without a pic of her standing), or maybe even boxer?
