What did you get your B for Christmas?

Basenji Talk
  • I bought some Merrick treats for mine and some Bamboo toys. They seem much more sturdy than some of the other chew toys I have bought that get de-stuffed within a few hours…we'll see:rolleyes:
The B-boys bought bones for my sister's dogs and my in-laws dog, plus they got a dog calendar for my in-laws. They are such thoughtful little shoppers:p

  • Is that a California club?

    @lvoss:

Every year the Rip Van Wrinkle Basenji Club has a Santa Paws gift exchange. Basenjis get their humans to sign them up for the exchange and then they are matched up with another basenji family and gifts are exchanged.

  • I have a $25 gift certificate to PetsMart but haven't gotten a chance to go yet. Senji's birthday is on the 30th, so I'll need to get him something for that too. My nieces bought him some sort of raw-hide pizza shaped thing. I don't think it agrees with him. Luckily he's only had 2 pieces of it. He likes to help open the presents, then shreads everything into tiny bits. I have a Santa outfit for him, so he'll be "Senji-Claus" for tomorrow.

  • You must post pictures of this! LOL!

I tried to take photos of Chase (my Puggle) in a Santa costume and Zahra in a reindeer costume, Zahra would not let me anywhere near her with the reindeer costume and Chase let me put his on but just stood there like a statue humiliated. Zahra eventually came to her brother's rescue by ripping the Santa hat and beard combo off him and jumping up on the chair to chew on it.

I had video taped Chase's torture and Zahra's defiance (I missed getting her ripping the hat and beard off on video tape though) so DH could see it when he came home which he in turn made into a video that we have shown to friends set to Christmas music it is entitled "Animal Abuse 101 by Jenn".

  • The Rip Van Wrinkle Basenji club is actually based in NY. I met the lady when we went lure coursing…

She sent me a "Wrinkler" newsletter in the mail - seems they have some basenji events periodically… sounds fun!

Actually it is a New York club. They have many members from all over the country. They have a great newsletter.

  • Sahara got chew treats and a nice stuffed squirrel that she really loves. I also got the laser light, she didn't care for it as well. She didn't think it was a big deal at all, Mom will return it. She also got a beautiful martingale collar that Majestic Collars handmade. It was made with Russian brocade material, lined in silk. She really looks regal in this, I will have to take her picture and share it here.

  • I posted our pics under Miles: A Rescue

But we did the Dogster Basenji gift exchange and it was a lot of fun… ;)

  • Various stuffed toys some of which have already suffered some damage to ears, eyes, arms and legs. Some chew treats and a great Holiday dinner enjoyed by all…...it was a Merry Christmas.

  • EL D got some new toys (one of which was ripped up before he even got the others unwrapped). He was busy opening his presents at the same time we opened ours so we didn't have toworry about him stealing presents.

  • How do you get involved in the club?

  • I got goober a rediculously huge bone. it weighs like 10 pounds.

I'm afraid If I do decide to get another I won't have a chance to introduce them beforehand as it Will probably be a puppy I bring from the US.. I doubt there will be a problem since she will be a young puppy…

A coupple of issues in this thread! (Way to multi-task here people!) Treats: the whole "upset tummy" is definately a too much of a good thing issue. Whatever you decide to treat with, make them very small and just watch how much you give. My dogs go nuts for bologna or plain ham. Cheese is the perenial favorite, but never underestimate the power of a "Good Boy!!" Coats & "Cold" Weather: My boys have it rough. Living in the Midwest, it is not uncomming to spend all witner in the single digits (not counting windchill which often kicks us into the negative teens, if not worse). Both boys have dog coats made by Lands End in the same style (and cold weather specifications) as their Squall jacket series. It consists of an easy belly band and front chest closure meathod. No worries about tails or legs. Easy on, easy off. And my boys live in them during the winter. Dogs, just like people, quickly acclimate to the weather. If we deicde it's "Cold" at 50 degrees, they start to feel that way. If we decide 50 is downright balmy, the dogs learn that too. Walking: Oh, the perenial issue of B's! I agree with many of the posters here: it's all in the tone and your attitude. If you decide to be upbeat and positive and decisive, the B will follow! (But probably will quit at mile 6 if he hasn't had his ice cream yet… grin)

Hello, I have some ideas for your stains. Everything these ladies have been saying is correct. Hairspray definately works for ink stains, it has been tried and tested many times by myself. It works on all fabric types from synthetics to vinyls and all polycotton and cotton blends. Just spray your carpet (I like to over spray usually) and take some carpet cleaner and it should wash out. The Tide pen is a miracle in it's self, I too have recently discovered. Spot shot works really good on most stains, it used to be a household necessity until we got our Hoover Steam Cleaner. No pet owner should be without one!:D As far as the Basenji, good ol soap and water does the trick with some elbow grease! I am disgusted to say that my boyfriend one day decided he was going to give Tang a tatoo using a black sharpie marker. I got mad at him and took Metinga upstairs and washed her head until it came off. It did not take that long maybe about 10-15 min of washing and the white was good as new. I used a bit of dog shampoo as well.:D
