Tayda Lenny Duke and Daisy at the dog park!

Basenji Talk
  • It's sounds like a great outing!! And how nice for Jill to have a nice peaceful time at the dog park. That is great you all were able to meet up at least once.

  • Those babies look exhausted! Now you are going to be hooked on the dog park, I love taking my two they come home exhausted as well.

Looks like you guys had a wonderful day!

  • The other dogs in the pictures look terrified of the basenjis or so overwhelmed they just gave up into submission.

Our dog do whell with most hounds labs as well.

All the bishon's we have met went pycho on our dogs??

  • ha ha, the park, these are the types of pics that other people without basenjis just dont understand- makes us look crazy.

a basenji owner sees- oh my, they communicate so differently together than with other dogs, look at how they play

the non dog owner sees- bunch of dogs that look alike….

the basenji owner sees- they are growl talking and not killing each other ! LOL

the other pet owners see - that dog is hard core scary and there are so many of them

these are the types of events that make me understand my kids and value their communication skills.

or maybe it is just me and i am a crazy basenji mom?

LOL - Yeah and sometimes it scares the owner too … It was the 1st time at a dog park with my kids. TL was more at ease, which was a benefit for me. They do gowl talk - the snarking sounds something like short spurts of tasmanian devil. Startling even for a B-owner with other dogs in the mix.

  • Great pictures of a great day!

Our go at it when they chase squirrels in the yard. the neighbors have to think our dogs are vicious. No one comes up to pet our dogs that live close. they fear them, except our next door neighbor who really knows them.

  • Those pictures are great!! I can't believe how BIG Daisy has gotten!! Wow time flies!!!! The last pic cracked me up!!! :D

Thanks RWF and yes, she is the one with the "block head". But, she is a lady and means no harm. Total Basenji - no barking, no shedding, no smells so far. She is Dukes competition . . . Except for being a "bed hog", she has won our hearts a thousand times over.

I too liked that last photo - classic! :D

  • They're all beautiful dogs! It just seems like yesterday you posting Daisy's homecoming pictures - She has turned into a magnificent young lady!

Thank you! It was a pleasure meeting Mommy Michelle. Tayda and Lenny were amazingly well behaved with our meeting the week before last. I love that it's so easy to become familiar with these dogs . . . addicting, eh?

They just opened a new park built on a retired landfill that has not one but TWO areas for dog parks, so when one gets run down, they'll open the other and close the first to allow grass to regrow, etc. She-Ra loves it, too, because unlike the other parks this one is wide open and has TONS of running room. Dream come true for us, but it'll still get hot in the summertime, I'm sure.

She-Ra goes to our local park at least twice a week. It's a nice area with a sectioned-off area for smaller dogs or if a dog is having "behavior issues" you can take it in there if there's no other dogs. A lot of "regulars" maintain law and order if a dog owner is getting out of line (allowing their dog to bully, etc.). She enjoys it. Runs in to do her business really quick. Sniffs everyone, but hates it when other sniff her. There'll be the occasional "give me space" growl if too many dogs get around her at once and sniff. Spends most of the time sniffing and standing in the middle of the park staring like a statue at something. Then you get the eventual chase going - those are always fun because the other owners are like 'Oh, She-Ra's gonna get caught!' and I grin and say 'No she's not.' as she runs circles around all the other dogs. I love watching my dog run…it's poetry in motion. After about an hour she's pooped and ready to go back home. We've had very few incidents with her that haven't been swiftly fixed. She seems to enjoy going quite a bit, and we're making friends with some of the regulars...I guess we're fairly regular now by this point as well.

Awww, I love the pics of bunnies and Basenjis. Adorable. :) Mine have never caught a bunny….we rented a house on 40 acres once but the bunnies were always long gone before Jibini got to them. He hasn't mastered the whole "stealth" thing. Now, we only see bunnies in the farmer's field OUTSIDE the yard. I'm not lettin' them loose; we're almost rural but not quite :). Cattle pastures & horses nearby, too many gun-happy ranchers who'll shoot anything furry near their livestock. Ohhhh- but the NOISES they make when they see the bunnies & can't go get them? Priceless. My neighbors likely think I torture a falsetto Chewbacca in my backyard on occasion. Jibini got a prairie dog once, though. He was on-leash at a Utah rest area. Digging in a burrow. I figured no harm in it- fun energy release for the dog. I thought prairie dogs had deep, interconnecting burrows? Evidently not these guys- after a minute of digging (head & shoulders in the hole) he came out with a prairie dog in his mouth. One shake of Jibini's head & the critter was lifeless. I had the same reaction- shocked and a little proud, LOL. My husband was simply proud. I put forth the requisite girly squealing before calming down & realizing I was impressed with my dog's instinct. I guess I somehow figured with his spoiled-rotten-mama's-boy upbringing & fancy show-dog lineage he might be a little soft around the edges. The kind of dog who'd show enough instinct to catch a critter then act confused about what comes next. LOL. Evidently not Jibini. :)

Whew! Glad you got them back…definitely night & cold were on your side. This summer I had the b-kids in the pen outside and went up to the garage to get a rake...it was in the morning. I'm in the garage, and all of a sudden I hear the pitter-patter of little feet. I turn around and both kids are in the garage. Needless to say I was    shocked. Anyway I made a big deal like I was so happy to see them and Ruby came right over to me to be patted and I picked her up. Brando wouldn't come close enough for me to get him. I started walking back to the house and I'm talking to Brando as I'm walking saying "hey Bran...let's get some cheese" and he's following me at a safe distance for him to not get caught. He follows me all the way to the porch, but then decides he wants to sniff around the side of the house. I open the door to put Ruby inside the house and as I'm going in I yell to him, "Brando, cheese". Well I go inside to the cheese drawer (I'm still holding Ruby), and the door swings closed, but then I hear the door open again and Brando runs into the house. :D Door closes behind him, both kids are in. Brando comes over and sits by me for his cheese. :D :D Good boy! Oh, and the reason they got free...I was in such a hurry I never noticed I forgot to close the gate...idiot mom  . That hasn't happened again!
