@cashh - Just curious, did you have your dog excused? Typically it is because of being lame in the ring or not letting the judge to exam the dog?

It would be interesting to poll the group to see just what folks view as their favorite color.
I've met people that didn't know they come in other colors other than R/W.

LOL Yeah I had someone tell me that Basenjis were too "plain" because they only came in one color!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had to correct them…now they want one LMAO!!!

That's the way…...doing your part to educate.....I love it!;)
-
Yeah I was like, "Oh, so you think they only come in red?! Well that's not true…they come in red, black, tri and brindle...I have two blacks!" they went bug eyed and said "WOW! I want one now!!"
-
I prefer the red, followed by brindle, then b/w, then tri.
The tris remind me too much of a doberman-type look, and while I LOVE dobermans, I like each breed to have a distinct look.
I don't know why the b/w don't appeal to me as much…. maybe they make me think of Boston Terriers, LOL. {The coloring, not the shape}. Although I do like the stark contrast between white and black.I LOVE the r/w because it's a kind of different shade of red than most dogs, and because the wrinkles are more clear. I LOVE Basenji wrinkles.
The brindles are cool because they have a more wild look about them.IF I am ever blessed with more Basenjis in my lifetime {dh says "NO MORE DOGS!!" ,but we all know he's said that before, LOL}... I would stick with r/w, or possibly brindle.

I have had people tell me that my black and whites must be mixes because basenjis do not come in black and white. When I said they are definately pure bred, the person told me my breeder lied to me. Hrmph! I guess they think AKC lies too.

I hope you didn't tell them about the conspiracy.:D
I tell them Willy is a red, wearing a tux.:D
Do you think they have a different personality?

My choice is what I have, Sahara, R&W, but my second choice is B & W, then Brindle. Sahara is so beautiful to me, partly b/c I love her so much. I do get comments on her all the time that she is beautiful, just tonight. We were walking along the town waterfront park and strangers stopped and asked me about her. They have Fox Terrier, and Miniature Pencher (spelling, sorry). Anyways, they didn't know the breed, but they do now, haha!!!!! They talked to me about 10 mins and said that Sahara was beautiful, of course they left me grinning like a proud mother. haha!!!! She is so good around strangers, strange dogs as well.:D

I like the way all B's look. I love my blk/wht and tri mixes. They're mine for life. In the future, I would adopt one that needs a good life and home. Doesn't matter what shade of color, pure bred or mix.

That is the best reason…...well said.:)

I think all of them have a different look. I want one of each. The brindle do have that wild look that is really neat and since you see it so infrequently. The reds are everywhere but they are so beautiful well except in Ohio. The contrast of the B/W makes them stand out to me. And the tri's are unique as well. I like them all.

Why aren't the reds beautiful in Ohio?
-
Oh Sorry, typing to fast. The few reds that are here, including my boy, are beautiful. There just are very few B's around. Thanks for catching that, all the Ohio red owners may be up in arms.

Wow, really? I thought you still had the option to send the photos back. It has been awhile since I had reason to get a pic and I usually buy it no matter how bad I look....but if it was a really crappy picture of the dog, I would want the option not to buy.I took a 5+ year break from showing and recently started back up. I was STUNNED to learn that win pic prices had gone from about $22 to $38!!!! I just bought one for Bindi's Best of Breed win. It was done by Rob Gerity photography and they do allow you to return unwanted photos.

Actually, there are LOTS of basenjis in Ohio. There is at least one big time breeder in every major city, and lots of the not so major cities. In my BCOA roster I counted at least six breeders that breed an average of one litter every year. And I can think of a couple other breeders that aren't BCOA members who breed every year too!
