@Kembe - Thanks for the update
Basenji Mix in SF Bay Area...
-
I ran across this ad on Craigslist this morning...
Rehoming - $700 (berkeley)
" Milo is an adorable and playful 3 month basenji mix pup. ... I've had him for two weeks ...I am giving him up because he is going to be medium sized dog ( vet said 40-50pounds), which will be too much for me. ... His rehoming fee is $700 comes with a bed, his toys, food and water bowl, blankets,... " -
@jengosmonkey - Is this for real?

It appears to be real to me, Pat. Click the link in my first post "Rehoming - $700 (berkeley). It'll take you straight to the ad on craigslist, which has more pictures...
-
@jengosmonkey Whatever is he mixed with that he is going to grow to that size ? and the price has to be a joke - yes ? $700 for a mongrel ?
-
@zande - and if this is a picture of this pup at 3 months, feet look to be way to small for that pup to grow up to be 40 to 50lbs.... My Basenji pups had bigger feet than that at 8weeks... I would really wonder if this is a scam.... buyer beware... and with a mix you never know what health issues you will be dealing with.... Also this pup only had the first vaccine according to the ad, but most pups by 3 month have 2 (I do 9wks, 12wks) and at 4 months (16wks) with the 3rd and I push rabies till 5months as I don't believe in "monster shots". And of course it would be nice if the application was in english? Easy enough to make up your own. There are way too many issues with this post....
-
@tanza I suppose it could be a scam... The author asks people who are potentially interested to download and fill out out a questionnaire. Something I would never do without having a phone conversation first and I may not even do it then depending on the questions asked. If a known breeder asked me for the same I'd be much more willing.
Craigslist says it's ok to use the site to rehome an animal, that a rehoming fee can be requested, but it has to be small and only cover things like a vet visit and shots. Selling any dog is prohibited.
-
@jengosmonkey - I would guess it is a scam... I did fill out the application just to see if it was a scam... not with my name or email. I really believe this is....
-
@jengosmonkey - And rehoming fee out of line... to me... health vaccines are not complete

That's one of the things that caught my eye. We adopted Jengo, a pure bred Basenji, back about 2012/13ish. We gave Karen less less than half that, or whatever we could afford (her words). She gave us a crate, food, collar, leash, etc. and she was running a full on Basenji Rescue at the time.
I didn't like the "2 weeks". Pup pics looked a little small for a three month old, but I could easily be wrong on that. And, $700 isn't a small rehoming fee anyway you slice it. Still... IF it's legit... maybe we can help this little one out. I'm not sure how though. I have all I can handle with two.
-
@jengosmonkey - Let's see if they respond to the "form" they sent the link to... I still think that this is a scam... and really after 2wks you are going to give up on the pup...just because you think that he might be too big? Again I will say that this is not what would be a picture of a 12wk puppy that would grow to 40 or 50lbs period. This is NOT something that anyone would fall for... in my opinion. I would be a scam
-
@tanza That's funny. I just sent you an email saying just about the exact same thing.
-
Before I got Cinnamon we were looking at ads and at shelters, and I saw two things like this. I think they were getting dogs from shelters and "rehoming" them for very high amounts.
-
@jengosmonkey, @tanza Perhaps you could find out which Vet gave the pup vaccinations and verify the situation that way (?) ... just an idea.
-
@ellenw Sure seems like there are plenty of shady people in the world!
-
@ellenw That is SICK. But I believe you. It is the sort of money-making racket some folks would get up to.
-
No reply to the form that they requested to be filled out..... not that I am surprised!
-
@elbrant - Nothing to verify, they put in the "ad" what the pup received... and also a Vet would not give out that information. Like I said below, I did fill out their requested form but have not received a response. My bet it someone already got scammed...sad to say
