New puppy, suddenly peeing a lot.

Behavioral Issues
  • @donc OK, yes, I agree entirely - hadn't thought about the need for the more accurate, invasive, test for UTI in puppies. Its not something I've ever had to do / have done. Thanks for the pointers !

But Basenjis always need to pee as soon as they get out of the car - not just at the vet's ! When I used to show a great deal and travelled with another breeder, I'd drive to her house which was a good five minutes from mine. In order to maintain harmony, her dog(s) - usually two - would have to be put into the car first. Mine had to be got out - and walked up the road a tad, when they would pee copiously.

That they had done so 6 or 7 minutes previously, before being put into the car - never mind. Car stops. We get out. We pee. And this applied to both sexes.

There is a sharp turn and a steep slope leading to the parking area behind my vet's - One and all, over the years, have started to scream Get me OUT of here ! the instant I turn the car into the driveway !

tanza - obviously your dogs get up in the morning a lot earlier than mine do ! LOL

"oh no! I didn't know about the party! I better leave my calling card so they tell me about the next one!" ;)

You guys are funny though you speak the absolute truth!

Might have something to do with the frequency of rainy mornings. LOL

  • @donc - Zande... nothing to do with rainy mornings... that is when I get up for work

  • We have had no rain for 6 or so weeks, none at all, ground is cracking up, grass becoming brown.

I have been encouraging Mku to do a rain-dance. He likes to spend a long time standing on his back legs, boxing with me so it was worth a try -

This morning it worked ! RAIN is actually falling from the sky. Mku is not amused. I am not going outdoors in THAT - I'll DROWN. Mom, have mercy !!

But out he goes ! Mom is totally heartless -

You are heartless! A regular Cruella de Vil.

Better be careful or Mku will have a lawyer and a list of grievances. Happened to a friend of ours. They had a friend (who is a lawyer) stay in their place and watch their dog when they left town for a few weeks. When they got back they were handed two official looking documents: The first was "A List of Grievances"; the second was A List of Demands. Both were very detailed (and funny).

    Priceless.

  • @donc It got worse. . . the grass became wet and I made him walk through it !
    Poor Mku.

But you have given us a task for these work-free days. Composing just the sort of legal document, written by the dog, as your lawyer friend wrote.

btw - I am just kidding when I use the words 'work-free' - not many of those.

I have noticed my female besingi mix (18months) of age becoming more and more agressively towards me, children, and other dogs. She is very well socialized however she is becoming more dominant, wanting to nip at faces agressively when playing with dogs who too want to attack playfully at the face. However, she has become very aggressively to mommy when trying to keep her outside while I vacuum and she absolutely hates the vaccum and having the door shut closing her off from me. SHe tried to bite my arm (very agressive face with fangs out and fur up) last week and I had to use a broom in order to shut the door. Additionally, she snarls at children. Khloe and I are the only 2 in my household, so no kids and no one else. Only few friends and neighbors stop by but lately she is getting even more aggressive towards them, even if she knows them. I do not know what to do. We were kicked out of puppy training when she was 4 months old b/c she has severe leash aggression. She does work well with a clicker, but I dont always have the clicker on me. My vet today told me to come on here to see if you guys could potentially help or lead me to the right direction of contacting an animal behavioralist. He stated Khloe will only get worse if nothing is done. Additionally, I do not spank Khloe, I only use a clicker, but obviously does not show her that I am the dominant one. SHe also demands all of my time to the light up laser for hours on end and will not give up. Please help! Vonda

@-Clar|Emm|Kai-: …Uhh, is it bad to admit that I don't correct my B when it comes to the coffee tree people?... =D That'll teach em to stand around! :D The thing I see most at the dog park is humping.

@tanza: So you think…ggg.... I will be waiting to here what happens when you put panties on your girl.... go out and come home.... Tea Tree Oil or not... LOL, took the words right out of my mouth…we want pictures of how the panties look after you leave her with them on and you're not around to watch her. :D :D :D With Ruby, anyone I talked to about the panties said, skip it because they'll get shredded and clean up after her...so that was what I did. Wasn't really a big deal. I have wood floors, area rugs that are easily washed, and blankets I put on the furniture. :D And with Ruby, I know exactly how it would have gone w/panties (not good) just based on how she was about me checking that area to see if she was bleeding.

thanks to all your suggestions. this is the second day/night now and she has peed outside. She has started to go towards the door when she needs to go to do a pee, so i've let her out..stayed with her until she does (which has been very quick, it used to take 5 or so minutes but now only 5 seconds..which is great!! She gets alot of praise when she does and she is quickly allowed back inside. Fingers crossed it stays that way!! Yes all bedroom & toilet doors shut..i learnt not to let her out of our sight as she is very sneaky??? One more question which i find odd..why is there a need for her to clean up after herself after peeing on the floor or her bed??

"garlic deters fleas" Also works on my wife. Either everyone has to eat it or no one. Dogs don't seem too fond of garlic breath either, this should be for the foot & kissing thread?
