    so this weekend I have furthur realized how wonderful my little boy is. We took Dash for a run all three days this weekend and he was an absolute joy and the fact that he slept the rest of the day didn't hurt either. But we had people over last night and I could leave him out. I have always had to put my dog up when people came over. But Dash is so good. He just sat in my chair or watched my neighbor's little boy for him to drop anything that he could eat. When we were eating dinner he layed in the living room and chewed on his bone until I was done and gave him my leftover chicken.

    He had really proved to be a perfect addition to our family. Almost makes me want another. But Ern won't let me.

    I was SO proud of Senji this weekend! We went up to my brother's home for a visit. (Senji's first home) He was perfectly behaved, even though he had to deal with 7 screaming girls…ages 4-14. He just hung out of the back yard patio area with the adults. He even let the girls pet him without snarking. The neighbor had their beagle tied out and was howling in the yard, and Senji didn't even try to go over there to "investigate." :D

    LOL, it is so funny to read posts like this because I remember Caesar as a young basenji….

    I used to think to myself, "they must be crazy to think multiples would be okay".:D Caesar was truely chaotic young but has been such a blessing in my life.

    He really mellowed out. I can relate to this thread now, but years ago, would have disagreed. LOL

    Funny how good training pays off and makes you proud of the little rascal. Family who've seen Duke in action when he was younger couldn't believe I got another one like him (Daisy). I am a so proud of Duke. Daisy is coming along OK, but we're still going thru all the training . . . it pay off big time.

    In your position, where you really have to take her out a lot, I understand. And I hope her comfort continues. My point was it is situational need, not dog need to be that social. :) I have a slim chance of that having worked with my current 2, but with my incredibly dog aggressive first one, I'd have been out in a basket muzzle and warning everyone to keep their dogs away.

    If the dogs are having similar symptoms as in the previous years, they need to be treated ASAP! It is my understanding that many are developing the acquired Fanconi Syndrome and need to be put on the protocol. Many vets though do not have the equipment to do the venous blood gas test and get an accurate diagnosis. Emergency vets should have the equipment. Do not buy any dog treats that come from China and if the package does not state where it is from then do not buy it! Jennifer

    Well, the lab I mentioned (chocolate overweight one) almost took me out by slamming into my knee. I commented loudly " he better not insure my knee!" No comment from the owner. Others were keeping an eye on this over exhuberant dog too. Many peeps were standing behind a bench for protection. What really bugs me is that the park has very visible signs when you enter it that say you must have control of your dog.

    If you ship him underneath in cargo, don't forget there are temperature restrictions. Where would you transfer planes at? This summer has been hot in many cities! Please check the requirements for the airline you will be traveling on. There is usually a limit to the number of dogs allowed on board and in cargo. You will need to make a reservation for him at the time you make your own. There may be additional requirements since you are coming from Canada, you will need to check with the USDA, the CDC and the State of Massachusetts. You can find the requirements on the USDA website and it has links to each state. http://www.aphis.usda.gov/animal_welfare/pet_travel/pet_travel.shtml You need to make sure the carrier will fit under the seat so if the carrier you are considering is much larger than the large size Sherpa brand bag I doubt it will fit under the seat. I used to travel with Arnie onboard about 10 years ago before 9/11. I trained him to get in and out of the Sherpa bag and to stay in for short periods of time. He almost always laid down in it. He never made noise even when we were in first class and they served food! Most people did not even know I had a dog. I also made sure I was comfortable carrying him in the bag. I figured if the airline employees thought I was struggling with him then he was too heavy and he would not be let on the plane. He was an older pup but weighed about 18-20 lbs. Jennifer

    Very nice work Basenjibratz! They look totally comfortable! And I agree that once the basenjis are used to other dogs, and have a chance to acclimate, often things go quite well. It is that initial interaction that often goes so well! You have done some great work.

    @Vegas: We're all committed to the basenji, because the little tools have a way of capturing our hearts… I think basenji owners are a pretty tight-knit group. The ways basenjis affect our lives are so similar, it's hard to not find something in common with other basenji owners. I think this may be the "same page" Andrea was speaking of!
