Houdini is a Basenji

Basenji Talk
  • When my blk/wht, Nika was a puppy at 6 months old she did this amazing escape and reentry. She escapes out of the backyard into the neighbors yard by digging under. Ok simple enough. She then gets out of his yard through the front picket fence (I don't how) and comes back to my house and gets into my front yard through my picket fence (not sure how) and when I pull up in front getting home from work she's sitting on the front porch. There's no place to dig under the picket fences. I don't think an 8lb dog could jump these fences.

  • 8lb at 6 months?… Wow, she was a tiny little girl...

  • Yes Pat I'm most likely incorrect in her weight. I was just best guessing.

  • When Zahra was about 9 months I saw her go through a picket type fence at the dog park at PETA. I am glad that she is bigger now and can't do it anymore. Maybe I better not say that …

@melduff I for one think this is FANTASTIC news! You guys are so lucky! You have a one of kind super dog with the papers to prove it. Walks around the neighborhood and trips to the dog park are going to be very much fun... Friendly neighbor: Oh, she's so cute! What kind of dog is she? You: Thanks you so much. Why, she's a Staffy Chow Lab Rott Russell Husky. (Ya haff ta memorize that) :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:  Thanks a bunch for letting us know. Very much enjoyed your thread.

SHHHHHHH don't let my Kaiser know he should know how to get out of his crate. I suppose once they have escaped they will always have a go at doing it again. What a good solution to solve the problem getting another B, maybe Kaiser should escape. As Kaiser gets older I intend to test him being left out of his crate and hope he behaves as I always worry that if there's a fire he will be trapped. Jolanda and Kaiser

I read your blog and find it kind of confusing and ….. your comment about "messing with ..." hmmmmmmm.... Anyhow, yes, it is so cool when you come across another basenji, because they totally understand each other and how they want to play. We were fortunate once to have another basenji play chase with Kipawa at a dog park. I just don't think there are many basenjis in the Lower Mainland. :(

Oh Barklessdog, you are a brave person. I must now stand with you in insane-solidarity and admit I bought it too. It is awful but when you get the line "we couldn't say goodbye so we took him home" part, you know you got to help support the woman. lol

I have found that if I take my B to doggie daycare (even if it's only for half a day), she is ehausted when I bring her home. She will let me do the dishes without any basenji help! She also tends to treat our doggie friends a little nicer when they come around. Having a worn out basenji is deifinitely worth the $15!!
