I was referring to spaying of females - but yes, you have the right of it across the board.

Spencer had one of his anal glands impacted when he was just under a year old, and ever since, I keep an eye out for swelling, scooting, licking or tail biting. It's usually obvious when he's having issues. Except… I took him to the vet last week because I thought he might have an eye infection. I always have his anals expressed while I'm there and was shocked when the vet tech said he had an infection in one of them. I had seen no signs at all! So now he's on antibiotics for ten days, then back we go for a re-check. Glad to hear Oakley is doing well. He's a handsome boy!

Spencer started squatting after he was neutured and never went back. The only place he will lift a leg is when we walk past a stop sign. I figure that's his peemail site and he's leaving his regards to the other dogs. :) Glad to hear Kipawa has recovered!

yes, that is wayyy to skinny. Get your full records from the current vet and get a second opinion immediately. Increase the protein and carbs in dog foos. May require swithcing the food he in on. Here is a good website to compare the content of food. Stay in level one or level two foods. http://www.dogfoodproject.com/index.php?page=grain_free Here is a website to look at, view the content of diffrent foods. For good weightgain, I suggest switching to Natures Balance Sweet pot. and fish- my dogs were picky too, but they love this food. It smells like fish so much they gobble it up. Buy a small bag and test it out first. Feed as treats, then start integratig it into your food. Here is a good link for how to switch dog foods if you need it: http://www.ehow.com/how_2020381_switch-dogs-food.html When they are being extremely picky, poke a hole in a fish oil capsule and squeeze over the food. Its great for them, bones, joints, skin, ec…. and makes them eat it all! Also- supplement with "Nutrical" a puppy supplement with high protein for muscle growth. I still have to use it on my 5 year old because he just wont eat.

My first Basenji, Nipper gave me and my Mother a good surprise. This happened on Halloween in 1975 when she was 10 months old. I went out with my friends earlier in the evening and my Mother seeing the dog sleeping nicely on the couch decided to leave her in alone going out herself for the evening. We would usually put her out if we were leaving. Well she woke up at one point and didn't like being left alone and this is what she did. When I got home at around midnight I tried to open the door from the garage leading into the kitchen. I could not open it, pushing and pushing. I finally pushed it open as the carpet had been ripped back. When I looked around the house the curtains in the living room were shredded. Mom was a bit upset and said she needed to go. I got Nipper from her best friend. The next day I got an extra piece of carpet and fixed it and you couldn't even tell anything happened, Mom got new curtains and all was forgiven. Needless to say that Basenji was wonderful and was my best friend for 17-1/2 years.
