It's Official…

I'm a real Basenji owner. Both Loki and Kaia have been good about not destroying our stuff, until last night at least. Little Miss Kaia decided that my glasses looked incredibly tasty while I was in the shower last night and so, less than 9 months after purchasing them, I must get a new pair. What I find even more astounding is that when my husband brought the chewed up eyeglasses to show me…I simply laughed and said something to the effect of "well, at least I have contacts and vision insurance!". I suppose that means I'm officially crazy too
-
Ohhhh that's nothing, but you're getting a taste of proper Basenji life.
I literally just replaced my bedsheets today due to Kananga digging through them last night. 12 months is pretty damn good for bedsheets in my home.
-
Oh I know it's nothing. We've frequently commented that Loki is an insanely easy Basenji. The worst he did as a puppy was chew holes in the sheets when teething. Kaia though gets creative. The carpet will need to be replaced in 2 spots from her ripping it up and she likes to steal anything she can. Oh…and there was the time she jumped on top of my plate because she wanted me to share my dinner
-
Kaiser has had a few goes at the carpet as well, started with the carpet on the cat tree and moved on to the stairs, old carpet will stay a little longer now and used for training purposes ha ha. And he is also very much a thief, you can always tell when he has stolen something because he is so happy playing with it you feel mean taking it off him. I would still say he is an easy Basenji too. Hoping Basenji life doesn't get more tasteful around here, could be dreaming by the sounds of it.

Lela loves pens and fly swatters. Binti is not much of a chewer. When we are away for a while, I'm sure to leave a magazine handy - she can focus on ripping that if she wants to and leave the expensive stuff. After tearing up a page or so, she will stop and fall asleep again. Guess we're lucky…

My last boy was like that. Usually a flyer or other paper. He would rip it up and leave it scattered where I couldn't miss seeing it. His way of expressing his displeasure that we had gone out and left him alone. What is really funny is that he would usually do this immediately after we left. A couple of times I forgot something, and when I came quietly back and looked in the window, he was in the process of "choosing" the correct item to rip. When he saw me, he looked so guilty and embarrassed! I think this quirkiness is why we love Basenjis, even when they are naughty.
-
Bahahahaha, yep officially a basenji owner and crazy. I am fairly certain you can't have one without the other.
-
C-Me and Franie as babies got a total of 4 pairs of our glasses! Welcome to the club!
-
I see your glasses and raise you a night guard, a kitchen cabinet and a car seat! Ava isn't picky.
I'm so glad to hear Kaia is officially a Basenji! I guess they can only be good so long before the "eat, dig, destroy" gene kicks in . Spencer was like Loki. His big sins were shredding paper, eating Q-Tips and stealing socks. Those were the days…
How is Kaia doing otherwise? She's such a gorgeous girl.
-
Both my Bs love furniture!!!
I can't count how many couch covers I have gone through. Why do I have to cover my couch? You guessed it! Sheets, blankets, more comforters than I can count, pillows,
I must be made of $$$$$$$$$

Lol…Ava certainly doesn't sound picky, Kaia's got nothing on her!
She's doing well, would be a handful if we didn't have Loki, most of her bratty teenager pranks are focused on him. She's picked up the habit of giving a light smack to the face when one of us gets home or she wakes up in the morning, so keeping your face away from her for the first few minutes has become a must. And she mistakenly thinks she's a goat...she will eat anything! How is little miss wild child doing?
-
Oh my, you are getting a taste of a 'real' basenji! But she is sooo adorable. Nicky ate 3 pairs of my glasses at about age 12, so she may not outgrow her taste for plastic.
We are talking about a trip to Fleet Peoples, will let you know when/if we all do a road trip. Any weekends you are not available to meet us? -

And a huge cuddler, to make up for her naughtiness. Please let me know if you come over to Fleet Peeples. Our weekends are pretty much always free so it shouldn't be a problem to meet up there regardless of when you decide to come over. I imagine all the B's would have a fantastic time in the woods hunting squirrels!

I'm always glad to catch up with beautiful Miss Kaia and hear she's doing well! Wonder what started her smacking people? Ava is a like a teenage goat, too, and I'm constantly picking things out of her rebellious little mouth– if I can catch her to get them! She loves to eat mulch... and grass... and dirt... and just about every plant she can find. She has even adopted one of those sullen teenage expressions that human kids have... when she's not ignoring me completely.
Did you have Kaia spayed or are you waiting till later in the summer?
-
LOL, Carly has turned into a little digging machine in the yard…. little holes every where in the lawn! None of mine have ever been diggers, will have to blame that on Jasper (VBG).... At least she doesn't dig to try and get under the fences....
-
No spay yet, but will do it next month. What about you; has Ava gone in yet? Kaia does not discriminate on what she eats: mud, trees, paper, oil blotting sheets, and q-tips are a favorite.
tanza- both of mine dig. Loki loves to eat roots so that's the main reason he digs and I think Kaia just sort of learned from him. And it's always impossible to fill in the holes because he literally scatters the dirt a good 4-5 feet away from where the hole is. And since we're on the lake they've dug up a few huge snail shells from the muck…Kaia actually came in the house with 4 all black legs one day.
-
I feel for you guys about the digging. Luckily, Ava doesn't dig… except in my sheets. She's a very aggressive digger of bed linens. I made the mistake of buying a detergent with Febreeze and she became rabid about digging to release the scent. Bad idea. I quickly bought unscented, and now she digs harder, trying to find the scent.
Tad thought it would be better for Ava to wait until July or even August for the spay. I'm holding out as long as I can. She had started urine marking in the house, but that has tapered off, thank goodness! Ava clearly thinks I need to redecorate-- replace carpet, do some painting, buy new rugs, get rid of some books...

That's the worst sometimes. I have to start locking Kananga out of the bedroom when I go to shower. Every time I shut the bathroom door, I hear him starting to dig into the bedsheets, of course I know to wait and listen for him to do it and catch him in the act. He doesn't care, has a big smile on his face with the expression "Yea? What are you going to do about it?". So now it's off-limits for him when he's not being supervised.
-
Luckily mine don't dig the bed unless they want to make it extra comfy or Loki is under some blankets and Kaia wants to pester him so she "digs him out". Otherwise they are good now with the bed, Loki even knows to get off and wait when we're changing the bed sheets!
Tad said the same thing about the July/August spay. Kaia hasn't done any urine marking and since she's always been so petite I was relieved when he said we should be fine waiting until July. I'm going to have to figure out a way to keep her from overdoing it and prevent Loki from licking or chewing at her stitches…I do have tea tree oil on hand so that should help.

Oh i was thinking i was the only one with ripped bed sheets! i dont care to replace.. i wait until they are totally off.. in fact i have left one to put over my new bedsheets so can take the damage first.
But sure! they get boring of that bed sheet so pass to the new ones.. lol
