One other note about chest 'dropping' (and why did dog people start using that term - it sort of conjurs up visions of dog parts falling off in the yard) One the the biggest problems in basenjis fronts right now is those that are too narrow and have a concave area between the front legs. I'm NOT advocating a front like a bull terrier but there needs to be some 'fill' there to have a good front but it's not the fill it is the actual structure of the bones in the shoulder and upper arm that - if not correct- actally pull the 'front' too far forward. A quick visual scan from the side - if the deepest part of the brisket is well behind the legs - the front is too far forward. We need to pay attention to the actual shoulder structure to make sure we are not continuing to double up on dogs with a short upper arm. That limits front reach, and creates a not efficient side gait. So go catch your dogs and do a quick check - measure from the top of the wither to the point of shoulder (the most prominant bone in the chest.) then from that point to the point of the elbow. They should be the same. if they are not - stand up your dog and put your hand between the front legs - if you hand is IN FRONT OF THE FRONT LEGS - great - if your hand is between the front legs the front on your dog is too far foward.
More than you ever wanted to know probably - LOL
Doesn't stop urinating
-
We have a 9 year old male Basenji Ty, who will stop to urinate and then when you think he has finished, he will resume walking but keep on urinating. It is like he can't shut it off for about 20 feet or so. He will do this several times at the beginning of his walk. Any ideas?

Is this a new behavior? If so, at his age I would get a vet to have a look at him. If it's a habit he's had for years, perhaps he's just more interested in walking than peeing. My guy will sometimes…...not often.....start to move off before he's through. Or change his mind about the "right spot". But more often with defecation than urination.

Our Dude has always been a wandering pee-er. When the grass is too wet and he goes on the patio he leaves a trail all the way across.

This behavior began this past year. It is almost like an older man with a prostate problem. It creats a larger issue when he comes back in the house through the doggie door and leaves a trail along the floor.

Maybe take him to the vet and see what they say. I know my female Shiba Inu had 'leaking' problems when she got older and it was caused from kidney problems. They had to change her diet to less protien and start her on some pills. It would be something to look into anyways.

I would have the vet check him. At nine, other issues are indeed possible. However, because he shows no incontinence at OTHER times, I suspect he just is one of the walk-n-pee-ers. You may have to retrain him with treats, stand in one place, and sadly block the doggie door and go out with him til he is done.

Do let us know what you find out from the vet please.
-
Dogs can get prostate problems so I would definitely take him to the vet! It can also happen to neutered dogs depending on at what age they were neutered.
