@giza1 Who are you talking to Joanne, me? Because all of the wonderful breeders you're referring to are doing NOTHING to stop this woman except referring people who ask to other breeders. 3 rescues in less than a year, all with health and temperament problems. Excuse me for being incredibly bitter, but I couldn't save one of her dogs, spent a week going to the ER twice a day for IV antibiotics and needed surgery on my hand because she overbreeds, hasn't got a f**king clue and is irresponsible AND THE REST OF THE BCOC MEMBERS look the other way! There is one canadian basenji breeder I'll recomend, and she's in Vancouver. At this time last year, I spent my Christmas crying over a dog who was under quarantine order, waiting to be released by the County Health Department so I could have him euthanized. You want to talk about our "wonderful canadian breeders" you're part of the problem! They have zero heart and look the other way--as long as they're making money they don't give a sh*t!
Question, ethical breeders
-
How can we discuss breeders who are not ethical on this site?
Not trying to cause trouble, but if some folks know others are not doing
right by the dogs they have, how can we share it? -
Think that is a delicate subject. What you might find a bad breeder, I might find a good breeder. Every breeder has his good and bad things. There are a few who are really bad, in allmost everyone's eyes, but where do you draw the line of what is good, acceptable and bad?
-
I think if you are going to talk about "ethics" it needs to be hypothetical. When you get into naming names, there can be questions of libel unless the information is provable fact, not opinion. Probably why the thread was shut down…..
-
If there is a problem, I would talk to the breeder first, then as eeefarrm said, make sure not to use names if you post anything here.
-
I certainly think we can come up with a list of things we think make a bad and good breeder in general, though.
-
My bottom line for a bad breeder is someone who doesn't do right by the dogs/puppies they have.

Debra, I like your idea about two lists. There will never be 100% agreement on anything (what is bad, what is good), but if we keep the goal in mind, which is education about basenjis, perhaps we can come to some acceptances.
I'm going to say something, and it isn't about anyone on Basenji Forums at all, it's a general life statement. If we can try to keep the human ego out of the equation, and concentrate on ensuring both new and repeat basenji owners have good tools to work with, then we are truly caring of the breed.

Well said, Fran.
-
Fran, that is an excellent post. Lets look at this from the prospective of the dog!
-
Fran, I totally agree with you.

We could do it section at a time, starting with health testing.

Which honestly has been done a number of times on this Forum… just do search for the threads.
And beyond that these threads including the one that was shut down was about the new imports being accepted into the stud books.

Sharron, this entire discussion was first based around the admission of stock into the stud books. Each and every time the threads were hi-jacked so that no real discussion could be had by the group.
This particular topic has been covered over and over. Just search the threads
