My girl started her first cycle…advice please!

  • @Walter:

I'm gonna get her the doggie diapers, less washing blankets and hilarious to see her wearing a diaper:) I too doubt the diapers will work well but what a sight.

Walter, we are going to want pictures! :D

  • My girls from two different lines came in twice a year the first couple of years-since then they have only had once per year. I know friends of mine have some of their girls in right now as well. It's a strange year with it being so cold and wet in the spring.

  • Hello All!

Well were in day 6 of her 1st season and things are going really well with the doggie diapers (to my surprise), she wears them without problem…I think perhaps the actual ones designed for dogs may work slightly better or she just doesn't mind. They may have a different shape to them that helps them stay on, the tail hole is in a perfect spot. She is very tired and quite loving. Her "girl parts" got quite big over the past few days and nipples have doubled in size (hope they go back down). Me and my GF can't wait for this to be over! Scarlett was born in September so I guess her mom (Therese and Kevin's Karma...dad was Sober) had to have a similar cycle.

Been busy but will try to post Scarlett diaper pics soon!

I always wanted a dog, but my stepfather was allergic. My husband grew up with basenjis in the 50's in New Bedford MA. They never showed, just had them as pets. They did everything wrong– let them run loose, bred them without planning, but he had great stories about them, particularly one girl named Congo. His family had a rescue B named Rusty, who was a great character (also loose, but luckily a homebody) when I met him in the 70's. I liked Rusty's aloof confidence, and got my first B in 85-- Kenji. He was backyard bred-charming but turned very dominant and difficult at adolescence, but we worked with and had him until he was 13. We got our second dog from Matahari B's, and Caddie was a tricolor sweetheart for 15 years. Now I've got the gentlest, most outgoing B I've ever met. Sol was raised by someone else, and they did a great job-- thanks Eldorado! I adopted him at 5, and after a few weeks of thinking about it, he decided to stay (he jumped the fence twice, but came when I called the second time). He's my best friend, and even goes to work with me in the winter. And sometimes I wonder if he's really a basenji, because he wags his tail so much-- but only for me.

She has done some testing. Do you know the parents of the dog you are thinking about getting? I know she has had some litters that were sired by PJ's Kenset Back To The Future, http://www.offa.org/display.html?appnum=1260147#animal I also think she has his son, Kenset Alwyn Enrico Karooo So, http://www.offa.org/display.html?appnum=1394144#animal

Waiting seems to be the hards thing to do, but its worth it in the end. Congrats on the baby B.

Well, Tosca is just fine I think:) I was kinda worried last night, as the emergency vet said it would probably be ok since she only had half a pill, but they said I could call poison control to be sure. Well, that was going to be pretty expensive (55) so I wasn't too crazy calling about half of a pill, plus she seemed ok, and the vet seemed pretty confident. Then this morning I was a little worried again because she wouldn't eat more than about half her food, which is extrememly unusual, she usually gobbles it right up! But I had to go to work, and I called our usual vet on the way and they said it shouldn't be a problem. Luckily, now that I am home tonight she seems fine:) Thanks for the suggestions, we just got Tosca in Feb and this is the first time I have ever had a dog ( I was deathly scared of them as a kid) but she really has grown on me, she is so sweet, and not like a normal dog.
