    We watched our puppy for a week before she finally got her name and all of the family picked something. Jaycee Tag Princess of Wild Spirit. Jaycee my husband says just because I can. Tag was because everthing with a tag she tears it off. She is my little princess. Wild Spirit well that is just her.

    I dont see any reason why the call/ pet name should be the same as the registered name on the pedigree.

    only one of my 8 dogs ( including the 2 living with my parents ) carries a part of his registered name as his call name.

    If I call you names, please note that I am not suffering the Tourette syndrom.

    Von just because, Sverige because where I am from (=sweden in swedish)Spunk, 'cause he is full of it..Silly yes I know but hey why not be silly..? He is also known as
    No-Otis, "Out african hound" and Damn dog (my husbands favorite..)

    Medjai just got a registered name change. I wanted to give Medjai a registered name that would be long like most of the others, so he is now 'Chaverim's Medjai ben Moshe'. Although I don't know for sure that I'll be getting a pup this season, I have chosen the call name of 'Nailah' for it. Now I just have to get a pup.

    Medjai is egyptian for soldier and Nailah is egyptian for successful.

    After these two, If I get more later, I will name them with more hebrew names.

    Chaverim is hebrew for friends, and ben moshe, means son of moshe (me). Since Medjai is neutered, and his breeding was quite questionable too, I just made him my kid (hehe).

    We did, however, get the DNA tests done on all applicable parties and now know Medjai's real parents.

    @YodelDogs: We have already established that Dexter's "breeder" was disreputable. How many litters did this person have? If she had more than one litter then it is entirely possible that the papers that were supplied with Dexter may not have even been from the litter he was in. Very True Robyn

    I think it varies with breeders. Some breeders name the pups on their registration, some let the new owner do it, some want the kennel name as part of the registered name but leave parts up to the new owner. Often the registered name is unrelated to the 'call name', which is what the dog answers (hahaha) to.

    My dogs are: Old Legend's Chinese Peony, called "Peony" Old Legend's Dojo-Hoshi, called "Dojo" and the same as soulmate I was also allowed to choose both names.

    @Andrew: Booger is FINALLY registered with his proper name. We've decided to use "Griffin" in our dogs' names as a reference to the half lion/half eagle mythical creatures. The Egyptians borrowed them from other civilizations & used them in art depicting hunting scenes. So Booger is now "Griffin's Pick of the Litter." Very nice choice…cute name. :)

    @mauigirl: I wanted to let you all know what I decided on. It's "Sulou's Tri the Good Life". It took quite the progression to get there. It had to go through "life of riley" to get the "good life" part. It was actually Susan's suggestion and was something I had thought about. And I was able to get "Tri" in there after all. It's kind of appropriate, we're always joking about what a hard life the dogs have, given that they seem to have sleep-a-thons oh, you know, every day!! But I'm pleased with it and couldn't have gotten there without your suggestions so thank you! Very cute name… I really like it
