2 Basenji boys in Spokane, WA shelter

  • Hi everyone,

Just saw these two posted on Petfinder - surrendered together. Snoopie looks very thin.

Is BRAT in WA state in contact w/this shelter?

  • Thank you for posting this. THIS is the first time I have seen this…and will call the shelter to see if they will release them to rescue. Some shelters will, some won't.
    So, more later.
Again, THANKS for telling me about these 2 b's!

  • My pleasure - hope BRAT is able to look after them!

  • Just called them. The shelter has worked with me in the past.
They just temperment tested the 2 and feel they can adopt them out.
They did take my phone number and BRAT website to share with any of the new adopters. Also, they had the 2 b's in seperate kennels, and I asked them if they could put them together and they said they would…so, at least they can draw comfort from each other in the run.
I asked them to try to adopt them out together, and they said they had decided to do that.
So, when I get off this site, I am going to send these dogs info to everyone who has a adoption ap in Wa and Id.
Fingers crossed we get one of our folks to go get them.
THANKS again for telling me about these 2 b's.

  • I am really hoping that they find good basenji savvy homes. Snoopie is so emaciated. It is hard to tell how thin Panzer might be from his photo.

  • We have committed to adding a 2nd B (male) from a local breeder as a companion for our 11yo B girl after losing her brother to liver failure in October. He'll be joining us in March and is a lovely 3yo brindle who our girl has met and only mildly "swore" at : ) I know I shouldn't be looking at the Petfinder site anymore & taking ourselves off the BRAT adoption list, but if a heads up like this helps some B's find a great home, then that makes my day.

  • Poor babies, Snoopie is way under weight…..... I hope they find a home soon... and that would be great if they could stay together...

  • I also was worried about the dogs weight, so called the shelter again, and told them about fanconi and strip testing. They did say they have a very on staff and they would pass on the info to the vet.
    I think they will…

Re posting these dogs to this site...THANK you, I don't have time to look at petfinder and this type of heads up can help me try to help dogs in need.
I did post to all the folks who have BRAT ap's in Wa and Id to tell them about these 2 so fingers crossed they go to a good home, OR they go to a home that will call me.

  • Being that thin, I would also pass on info on EPI, Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency.

  • Darn it Lisa, I didn't think of that! I did call them 2 times this afternoon, they were kind enough to listen to me and write down what I had to say.
I will call them tomorrow…"guess I will be their new best friend"...
They might have prefered to give me these 2 rather than having to deal with me
    on the phone!

  • The peskier you are, the less likely they are to be euthanized. It shows that someone is looking out for the Basenji. I say be a pest.

  • Oh, Ms AJ, I always try to be a help to the shelters…and I do call them..often several times a day...laugh, can't help it.
I WANT them to make sure these b's go to the BEST home possible.
Thank heavens they realize I do care about the dogs, and am not trying to tell them
    their jobs.

  • Got a note from the shelter that they have been placed. Wow, that was fast.

  • Great news, lets hope they have a good forever home. Sharon you do a great job:)
Lighthouse i hope you're going to post some pics when you get you new Basenji.

  • Yay! That's great news. Thanks for jumping in with the shelter so quickly Sharron!

  • Houston

Good to hear that these dogs are out of there and in a home..

  • Oh, Rita Jean, these dogs went back to the owner. I am not sure this person even notified the shelter about the dogs being missing…and you saw the photos..sigh.
I posted to the shelter to ask them to see if they could get the owner to take them to the vet.
    I so hope they do..
    Sigh.

  • I am so sorry breaks my heart to see the one little guy so thin. One can only pray and hope that the owners will take them both to the vet. Thank you for all your care, time, most of all concern.
