Dog food question, need help

  • We tried Jackpot on Merrick & he didn't like it. Wellness made him sick…so now he's on Fromm Duck & Sweet Potato & doing well :-)

  • @youngandtired:

What do you think of the Merrick brand foods, wet and dry. I will switch if need be, Sahara loves it, but I want her to be healthy, healthy.

Is she having any problems? Merrick is a decent food, IMO

Hey you! I've replied on your user-page :D

  • I'm very happy to say I got my dog his first bag of Orijen today. It was 4 dollars more than eukenuba and it's so much better it's just ridiculous. I was talking to the owner of the store for a while about how non educated most people are about this. Some people feed their dogs purina or science diet and they honestly think that they are feeding good food to their dogs. They might look at the ingredient list which is never easy to find in brands like this and then you read that corn meal is the first ingredient and your common sense just tells you there's nothing wrong with a corn meal. People don't know what these things are, and it's sad because it's something the vet should tell you. I shouldn't have to go on the internet to find out I'm feeding garbage to my dog you know?

Argh, just a little vent. Hope everyone and their B's are all right :)

Good for you! It's unfortunate that people aren't as educated on the matter, but not everyone has basenjis :D

  • I have my dog on Evo small bites. Pretty good food.

  • I've been having a very hard time finding dog treats with good ingredients, some help would be much appreciated.

  • Several of the good dog food companies make treats as well, but if your dog likes the food enough, you can always use that as treats. Or just boil some chicken breast and shred it some and stick it in the fridge to use as treats.

  • Good for you finding the new food. $4 is a small price to pay for better nutrition. Oh, and Innova makes EVO makes grain free biscuits. BTW, I think my 2 b adults love Orijen best of any food I've tried…I always get yodels when they get that...other foods, they eat fine but don't sing for. :)

  • I just bought Bella some Merricks Grammy's Pot Pie (dry). It sounds so good I'm tempted to give it a try, LOL!!! I haven't given it to her yet, I'm trying to time it out so I can introduce it slowly… I had to get it at a feed & seed supply store.

It IS sad that people are uneducated about the differences of dog foods… but what is worse is that some of these companies don't care how bad the food is for our pets. Another example of how money is more important in their pocket...

BTW, for treats we like Old Mother Hubbard!!!:D

We use ones from Rukka. Not sure if they’re available everywhere but they are they best ones we have tried (others always fell off, especially in deep snow). I think having two Velcro closures on each sock has been key. I also prefer the soft shell ones as our B seems to accept them more and they don’t twist as much as the ones with a hard sole. Here are the ones I am referring to: https://rukkapets.com/paw-wear/thermal-shoes-black

I have had a couple stained glass made, but there is normally a 3-4 month lead time as the artists are already booked up for Xmas this yr. Most of the artists on etsy will be booked this late in the yr, I had two quilts and a needle felt made a couple yrs ago and I placed my order in June in order to guarantee Xmas delivery. If you have a nice photo, there is a company called treasure knits that does wonderful woven afghans out of a photo with about a one week turn around. I have had both afghans and pillows made from photos as xmas gifts from them and they do great work.

Well I had my first Consultation last night with one of the dog sitters. I really liked her. She works part time as a vet tech and part time as a dog sitter. I liked that she has a vet tech degree, and is comfortable with canine first aid/CPR. I would hope that all dog sitters are trained in this, but now I know to ask about it in the future. She walked in and was so surprised to see a Basenji in Oregon (She is originaly from Florida). We had a great hour long consultation. I reallt think she may be the one I go with, but as this is my first time needing a pet sitter I will go through the other two consultations before making up my mind.

My Hollie girl eats from the bowl sometimes and sometimes she takes a few minutes to another room. She constantly "hides" her dogfood, in corners, under a doormat, under my bed pillows, etc. I don't know if this is something that all basenjis do, or if it is because she had been a stray when I adopted her. Either way, she is certainly entertaining.
