I just recently told my husband as we were both in bed loving on our B, Sahara. I said, "It is crazy to love a dog as much as we love Sahara, we need to curtail it some"! So, have we curtailed, Heck, NO! We just love her to pieces, she is so special and loving, we can't help it. hehe!!!!!

Not strange, nor no need for therapy, Forexjohnny.
B's worm their way into your heart, little by little. They PROVE they are reliable and trustworthy. They may cause havoc in you're life, but mostly they own up, and seem proud of their accomplishments. Gotta love that!!!
Best wishes to you. May you find someone who shares the love for dogs, and especially basenjis, like we do.
BTW, we often disagree, in my house, on which dog loves us the most!!

Back when we got Topper, we had recently lost 3 within a few months from our "old pack". Topper was a darling 1 1/2, funny and loving, but I told DH I wasn't going to get attached to this one, he was just going to be "a dog". Yeah, right. Topper is my "Heart dog", adored above all others…just a dog indeed.
Keep adoring Sahara, you can't stop even if you want to!

Oh heck yeah, it's ALL about the Basenji for me at our house! I am completely and utterly in love with my "second child." Bella has started "worming" her way into the DH's heart lately. It won't be long before she has him completely wrapped around her little paw. My son; however, is proving to be more of a "cat" person… go figure!:confused:

I read some where that "the love we feel for our Basenji's is different to the love we feel for a human. It is better!"
I have been married twice, been in love with a human once (not either of two wifes :rolleyes: don't ask) and loved one Basenji. If I was to choose which love I prefer now I would choose…...... a Basenji"s love every time. Does that make me a little strange and need therapy :) or is this a common feeling among people who belong to Basenji"s?If you need therapy, we all do!!! Maybe a group therapy session of Basenji lovers…altho, I feel the same love for the other dogs, too. My Basenjis keep me warm and cozy at night and they don't snore!!! :rolleyes:

Our daughter gets jealous of our dogs (she's 15!). She still thinks the world revolves around her and does not understand that a dogs needs must be attended to, no matter what ! They depend on us to care for them.
Basenji love is much better than, say….... a Chimp.
Now that was crazy!

Maybe my son is jealous too… and I love chimps, but my son told me there was something on the news about one attacking someone. She had to have plastic surgery, must have been bad. My son already hates monkeys, that story just reconfirmed his fears...:eek:

I have a chimp phobia. That lady in NY who took baths & slept with her 200 pound adult chimp is beyond bizarre.

She fed him filet mignon and lobster tails. They shared cozy glasses of wine. They bathed and slept together. He tenderly brushed her hair. She gave him gifts and sweet kisses. He drew her pictures.
It's just weird," one friend said. "It's an animal, not a person. What she had with that monkey was not normal."
Chimps are like 8 times as strong as a man and prone to violent outbursts/temper tantrums. This lady was out of her mind keeping an adult chimp as a pet.
I saw a Discovery Channel special on Chimps and they said out of all the animals in Africa, Park Rangers feared adult male Chimps the most.
Basenji love is a much better proposition.

I think most of the other people need therapy..
Therapy from the BEST doctors in the world... --> B's...I know for sure, if everyone learned to love (like) a B... the world is a better place :D

I plan my life around my furbabies. I couldn't imagine life without dogs in it. They really do teach us to stop and enjoy the simple pleasures. :)

Well, yeah…as a former ape keeper who worked with all three great apes (Gorillas, Orangs and Chimps) I can tell you that chimps are feared the most by keepers. That isn't to say that you can't have great, strong, loving relationships with them...but wow, they can do so MUCH damage so quickly when they are angry. And sadly, when they attack they often go for the groin, and the face...makes sense if you want to seriously damage your opponent.
We have an old (but true) joke in the zoo world. If you go to a primate conference, and shake someone's hand, if they are missing a finger (or more) they are probably a chimp keeper ;) In twelve years of working with apes, the only one that hurt me (not badly) was a chimp who raked my hand with her fingernails, just to show me that she could ;)

But after hearing the 911 call from this attack, I am understanding how dangerous they can be… This is a sad story, this lady... did she have experience working in a zoo or something? What made her think (originally) she could properly care for this animal? I hope her friend makes a recovery, I am sure she is scarred for life. I pray for her that she can be able to have some kind of a decent life in the future.

Wow….I had to stop reading because that was so disturbing. Those people are sooo warped; and those poor primates are paying for it.
I particularly hated the part where the guy who has the baboon said "he holds your hand, and looks into your eyes like he loves you....but, he can't"....OMG! So you keep him in a tiny box of a room watching TV because you care so much about him...yuck....
And they all have stories about their primates savagely attacking them....sounds like a clue that they aren't great pets, huh?
Oh...don't get me started..this is a Basenji group....I will stick to that topic :)
