Icky problems

Yes, she is still drinking just fine.
We tried white rice later this evening, she didn't even try it.
I have been cooking the chicken in a skillet… just by itself. Maybe we'll try ground turkey. I managed to find a emergency vet in Geneva (he was in bed when I called, quiet polite though) and he accepted her as a walk in tomorrow morning.I'll keep things posted.

If she has had an upset stomach, sometimes the best thing is to fast for 24 hours before offering food again. If she is drinking plenty of fluids, sometimes just giving a little time the stomach to settle can do the trick. Then a bland diet for several days. There are a variety of recipes, my vet recommends white minute rice since it is the easiest digested. We use cottage cheese added to the rice but other recipes call for boiled meat with the fat drained off.

Sahara was sick with the same last week, she is never sick so it worried me and the hubby. I took her to the vet and they couldn't find anything really going on except she was very nauseous. The vet gave her a shot for that, told me to give her plain white rice the next morning, nothing until then. I did and she was not interested so I boiled up some chicken and added it to the rice, she ate it. Just small amounts at first, the next day she was much better, not vomiting. The vet said she probably got into something that did not sit good with her stomach. I love my vet she had me call her the next day to let her know how Sahara was doing. Good vets are PRICELESS!!!!!

So a very worrying day yesterday. The vet saw a large spike in white blood cells… so he figured infection, but he also didn't want to miss a bowl obstruction.... hence X-rays.. and then contrast X-rays. And fluids and injections of all kinds. IN the end, he wants to sterilize her (I got the nod from the breeder, yay) in case of a infection of the uterus... and he has been giving her medications for a bowl infection as well. We are going back in tomorrow for a further consult and to review all the Xrays etc. She still isn't really eating her super bland diet, but drinking fine. ... the worst part was hearing her screaming from her cage in the vet office when I was across the street. I had to bring back some papers to the vet and leave again listening to her screaming.. ugh.
BUT one thing to make you all smile... my dear vet, who only has one other Basenji patient decided to put Lycia in a cloth pop-up crate... HEHEHEHHEEH.. I'm sure you all can imagine.. she made short work of that and was running for freedom around the vet office. By the time I got here, the nurses were happy to give her back to me. :P

Back to the Vet office we went. Another round of injected antibiotics sigh another round of blood work - but YAY! My vet told me something along the lines of a scary high amount of white blood cells was 11 - and Lycia when she came in was at 22!! She is back down to 7 which is good
we are going in Friday for oral anti-biotics and more talks for her upcoming spay.. more torture for mummy, having her go under. She just cries so much when they take her in the backroom.. ahhh.but at least we are happy to be on the upswing. Just really looking to put on some weight since she still isn't really happy about eating.

I hope the vet figures out what is wrong & that your baby girl recovers soon. You are a good mommy to be taking such good care of her :) She's a lucky pup. Thinking about you & her as she gets better!
