Getting Rid Of Free Healthy Basenji

  • The "getting rid of…." is what bugged me.

How about, "Looking for a new home for....".

Well, frankly, the whole thing, you are right Ninabean - a cry for help for a vicious dog and then offering it up because he loves to play?

If you are not willing to work with the dog, then do contact BRAT if the breeder is not known or accessible. Please don't "get rid of" him to just anyone.

  • Where did you get your basenji from?

  • Poor basenji, I feel bad for him. My guess is that he needs more exercise, and some gentle, positive training to become a nice dog. I'll bet he is left home alone a lot, and then he feels he is the boss of his home, making him less than friendly toward strangers. A bit of analysis as to why he is acting the way he does might lead to some better behavior, and make him a desirable pet for someone. but if his behavior improves, you might then want him. Poor little dog.

  • I am wondering if this is a legit post…
Weird no response to any of the posts we have sent.

  • well he doesnt seem to be on the site.. his little green light is off.. lol maybe he just doesnt have access to a computer all the time? orrrrr maybe he thought everyone would take this differently? like someone would be like OKAY i want it!

personally, i'd like to see the answers to the questions you've all already asked..

Ditto me. I'm always looking at the bottom where it lists who's online. LOL

  • I think it could be a troll…basically coming in and posting a couple different messages in ways that will get people to respond and worked up...

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but it is odd that there are no other posts when people ask questions.

  • lol just something i picked up on.. 😃

Well it could be, but not that it is an unusal post…. sigh... this is how most of the kids wind up in rescue...

Well, I'm with you there Pat-I never noticed either!

  • Yea a troll is definitely possible with this post since he posted those two things within minutes of each other & hasn't been back on since [as his profile says his last activity was about 5 minutes after he posted this]. I actually hope this is a troll because if not, I feel terrible for the dog.

  • yeah, i just dont understand how in one post he wants help and the next he just plain doesnt want the dog anymore.

look at everyone calling him a troll.. hahahaha what if he really is a person and he reads all of this hahahaha how awkward.. lol 😛

  • I just hope that if for real they contact BRAT… and don't just dump the pup in a shelter....
Again... happens all the time... people get a dog of any breed, have no idea what this breed is like.. and then 6 months to 2 yrs.. have a real problem.. and again this goes for all breeds... gettting a dog requires time and energy.. it is not just a play toy that you get and throw out in the yard.

I had a lady call me the other day about Basenjis... her daughter wanted one... when I asked "why" the answer was "she wants a dog to play with"... when I asked then what?.... it was the typical answer... "don't know".... clearly these parents are not sold on getting a dog, but I give them lots of credit for at least doing homework first

  • yeah definately. mia's a handful and rockys got a serious attitude sometimes, but i could NEVER even THINK of getting rid of them. I think some people just want companionship and because B's are tiny and quieter than normal dogs.. they think PERFECT for apartments and cities! but they dont know anything about them. unless you have the time to take them places, you cant keep them cooped up in a house all day with no outside exercise and expect them to be happy/cooperate with you. they dont have anything better to do than chew stuff up. at least thats how i feel

Yes and these people lived in an apartment in the city… so my first question to them was "are you ready make the time to walk a dog?"...
