New baby….good news!!!!!!!

Behavioral Issues
  • Just wanted to share a good story !!!! We have 3 Bs, a boy 5 and two girls 7 and 9. We just had our third child on July 28th and everyone is getting along great. Our boy never liked kids(other than our own) until we got the girls from BRAT. They really mellowed him. It all seems very ment to be.

So, we now have the 3 Bs and 3 kids(11, 7,& 2 weeks)and everyone seems very happy !!!!!!!

VERY VERY PROUD OF OUR PUPPIES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Congratulations! You must really have your hands full!

  • Thats Great News!!!!! Sounds like your going to have a lot of great times in store. Can't wait to hear all the stories!!!!!!!!!

  • Congrats…your new baby and my boyfriend share a birthday! We would all love to see some pictures.

  • Congratulations… whats his/her name?

  • Despite popular belief, fur-kids and "skin-kids" can get along wonderfully. Glad you have such a happy family, and congrats on your new addition!

  • Hi you all.

Our daugther was born October 2nd 2008.

We own Basenjis since 11 years now but Felicity is our first child. So naturally i was a little afraid about how the dogs would behave towards her once Felicity would be home from the hospital.

All i can say is that i am so extremely proud of my five B?s they are so sweet to her, gentle and loving, as if she has always been with us!

They even - and that is really making everything a lot easier - accept all of Felicitys toys, blankets, beds as NOT-FOR-BASENJIS! And that eventhough all the toys laying around for all those years were Basenji-things. But they understood very fast and there was not the slightest problem yet (always add YET owning a Basenji).

Our oldest male - Aragorn - is very protective of our girl, always at her side. Our oldest female lost interest when she found out that i will take care of the baby myself and she would have to wait for her next litter. Troy and Casia are pretty much ignoring her since she can not play yet and Demian still did not give up hope that the baby would do something entertaining like running around with him.

I am really looking forward to the time when Felicity becomes a toddler… chasing after the Basenjis.

Hell will break loose here and i am glad to be at a settled age... maybe i should still start TAI-CHI, autogene training, some sound or light therapy for the nerves, just in case...

    Just in case...

Um….yes...all of those things needed ;) Having done the toddler/dog thing a few years ago..it is crazy....and in preparation to do it again in a few months, I think I will definitely try some tai-chi, and I like the idea of light therapy :) My twin boys were born in July, so they are pretty close in age to Felicity :)

    Welcome!

  • Lovely photos, so glad your pack is accepting of the "new puppy". I feel that if you just expect basenjis to be good, they will be!

@tanza I laughed @ “the close enough”! I know my dog is getting old - her face is white and her eyes are getting cloudy - but she will always be my baby. I have a hard time accepting the fact that she is getting older. I am going to have to remind and help her to go outside more often. I thank everyone on this forum for their kind words and comments.🙏🐕❤️🐾 BASENJI STRONG 💪

I had a (spayed) bitch that used to do that…...usually sniffed something, then clacked her teeth. She seemed to do it more as she got older. I had forgotten about it until I saw this thread. :) In horses it is a sign of submission. Foals do it, and usually outgrow it, but I have a 25 year old mare that will still teeth clack on occasion.......usually when she is in heat and shining up to my gelding! Go figure.....

I grew up with birds, hamsters, cats, dog, rabbits and we had hives of honey bees. Never anything wrong with me all my life even got lucky never stepped on a bee. My kids have cats, dogs, bird and my daughter never worn pretty little dress cause she would go right under a car with her dad and get grease all over her. Dirt and my son go hand in hand. They have been healthy. Now as far as walking to school I could not do that. Been far to many kids never got to school to many out there take kids. So my kids have never been allowed to walk to school. One mile there but anything could happen. People that usually do not want animals have there little fancy house and do not want the hair or the dirt. We have a friend who has three children just got a puppy about month ago poor puppy. Puppy got over gate in wash room and well had fun while they were at work. She just about lost it aniamls are better off without being that kind of home I told her so. Sad news her husband just went to work for Science Diet and they have a animal day once a month and they told him it was important they had a animal. He lied when got job and said he did. Now there is a puppy my heart really goes out to. Rita Jean

Guys, thanks so much for all your help! We are absolutely making progress! Bassit isn't exactly happy to go into 'puppy jail' (the gated off area where we keep her when we're mopping floors or something/not at home), but the screaming has lessened HUGELY. 2 walks a day, kong full of peanut butter, and doing this over and over again, has things greatly improved. Now all we have to do is get her to stop getting into everything while I'm working, we'll be just fine! PS - This community is great. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it.

Not sure, it could be so many things that a human can not see or smell. But, my terrier would do a low growl every time we drove by our old vet. We changed vets and he stopped but he still knew even 10 years later that he hated that vet. Not sure what happened to him that he hated them so much but he was neutered there!

@Capt_Jack_our_Basenji: THANK!!! And OH YES time does fly…i dont want him to get bigger.... My first baby is 20. That's TWENTY YEARS OLD!!! How the blazes did THAT happen? LOL. My last baby will be 9 –NINE!!!!! -- in a couple of weeks. Yikes! I know people always say, "enjoy them while they're young; they grow up before you know it", which is true, but there's no way to really appreciate that fact until it's too late! You are so busy with the day to day, you just don't notice that suddenly your infant is packing to move out! But there is so much fun to come! By this time next year, he'll be walking!! and beginning to talk!!! THAT is so much fun! You DO want those fun days to come also. But I know these infancy days are so special -- so snuggly and warm. {and tiring! ;) } I understand there's a part of you that would love it to last forever.
