Excessive chewing needs to be brought under control, IMO. It's particularly not good if they are ingesting what they are chewing, which can lead to trouble and vet bills. Yes, it is hard to control chewing done when you are not present, e.g. chewing up their bedding, but I would actively discourage the chewing of things not designed to be chewed when you can. Remove the object and replace with something "legal". None of mine has been a real problem in this area, and my last boy, Perry, was taught by his breeder not to chew and never did. All his plush toys remain undamaged, although he was happy to carry them around or retrieve them to me by name. A dog may chew because it has become habitual, but I would want to check his teeth if the chewing is excessive....

I buy 12 inch 'sticks, thick ones, and then toss the last 2 inches to prevent the 3 am barf. My guys are older and the sticks last for several days. They would be too expensive if they ate them in an hour!

I also thought of the heart worm pill iverheart and the frontline for fleas and ticks. would that bother them? i gave them the flea /tick over a week ago and the heart worm on the first…. other than that, they are pretty well watched 24/7. not a lot of chance to get into something. weird. i grew up with german shepherds. they were outside dogs, and very low maintenance. but so very loyal and independent. so this is very different. just want our babies to feel great and be happy!

I love, love, love Nylabones! We have to get the Durable because both furkids are mighty chewers. Yesterday I picked up the T-Bone steak looking Nylabone which they are loving. I tried the spare rib looking one but they managed to rip pieces off that one because it was too soft. The other Nylabone chew that I love is the dental ball and the dental dinosaur. I have to order the dental ball because I have not found a store around here that sells them. We have the ring but they didn't seem very impressed with that. The edible Nylabone's don't last very long either since both Chase and Zahra devour treats like they never get them.

The compressed does not flake off and they seem to last longer and be made better. I have always used the 10" rolled sticks…. when I used rawhide... however, as I have said, I prefer and now only use the bully sticks...
