Introduction- April K and Malcolm and Ivy Basenji Dogs

Member Introductions
  • Hi! My name is April. I have two Basenjis, Ivy a 5 year old red and white and Malcolm a 3 year old trindle (I had to look it up when I found him!) They are my babies! Both are fixed but we still show UKC a lot and they do all kinds of activities: showing, coursing, fastcat, some agility and we are just adding nosework and rally. I love keeping them busy and getting to introduce the breed to new people! We are form Medina, Ohio. These are my second generation of Basenjis- my Ivy is a full niece to my first basenji Sullivan who was the greatest dog on earth (I'm a bit biased but he was so cool my husband not only let me but wanted more Basenjis!) I am a teacher by profession. [removed ad text]
Here's a pic of by babies!

  • Thanks for the picture. Great looking dogs, and lucky you to have such a nice pair. It's wonderful that you are pursuing so many activities with them.

  • @aprilk
    Your babies are BEAUTIFUL! 🐾❤️🥰

  • YAY! More Basenjis! Thank you for being codependent and feeding my addiction. Great looking dogs. Love to hear more about the activities. I'm really close to buying some obstacles to set up in my backyard. I love to start seeing if I could train either of mine to jump, weave and crawl through a tunnel. Although I don't have any breeding information I'm quite certain that your Sullivan must be related to my Jengo. He too was the greatest dog on earth! :oncoming_fist: :smiling_face_with_heart-eyes:

You don't need to get too fancy in order to start teaching your dog these things. Look around and see what you have and can use....Perry "over a barrel".

  • Love your babies!

  • Thanks everyone for the kind comments! I started Malcolm in agility really early when he was just a pup and he definitely has a talent for it, we got sidetracked and haven't trained since covid but I'm hoping to start back up when we can. We just moved too and I have a lot more space so I'm going to start making my own equipment to train at home this summer. Jenjo, let me know if you ever want to talk, I can send you my email :) My Sullivan and my Ivy are both from Kiroja Basenjis. Here's a few more pics in action!

If you click on the last icon with the arrow up icon, you can upload photos. They need to be in JPG format I think.

@tanza: Did she come from a breeder? Most responsible breeders will/should take back their Basenjis? This would be your first option.

Hi Jill, You mentioned before that we probably live near each other. I just learned here where you aquired Duke! Wow! Was the other pup a black and white? I was initially attracted to the red and white which Joey is, but have seen some beautiful b/w. I doubt we would ever get another dog but it's fun to think what is might be like to have 2 Bs. Perhaps some day we could meet in a park to walk the dogs. Joey is 11 months and not neutered yet. He is tolerant of all dogs and aloof. We met his sister, Tory, who was taken at 8 wks and she is nasty! She snarled,"barked", etc at her brother and he just looked at her like she was crazy! We all laughed! Tory's mom is a friend of mine and how I found Joey. Send me a private email if you are interested. I'm sure I could learn a lot from you.
