• Hi All,

As part of our morning routine, my little girl refuses to get up till she gets her morning massage. She stretches out and i rub her back arms and legs, then flip her on her back and giver her a good belly scratch. While annoying at times, especially if i am running late for work, it gives me the oppertunity to notice any changes to her surface.

Friday morning i noticed a little white pimple like growth. It seemed to be filled with some sort of fluid, but i can't be entirely sure. It didn't seem to bother as i poked at it. But what worries me and the wife is that it has a firm mass underneith. I didn't think much of it since it is a holiday here in canada and our regular vet won't be infor a few days.

This morning my wife told me that it is getting darker. and from what i can see "the head" is slightly bigger. We are definately going to take her to the Vet, but i was wondering if we should take her to an emergency animal hospital.

She doesn't seem to be in any pain and she is only slightly annoyed that i poke and prod at it. She is her usual feisty self.

I am attaching a picture in hopes that someone can anyone offer advice or shed any light on what the growth is?

    cheers

I noticed that it looked just like something my female Candi had at the exact place your pup has, it was hard and lumpy sub-dermal as well. I looked it up in my 'Caring for your Dog' book by Veterinarian Bruce Fogle; pg 196-it says" PUSTULES IN GENERAL BACTERIAL SKIN INFECTION… Bacterial infection is the most common cause of pustules on the skin. These small lumps rapidly break down and from crusts on the skin surface. Broken pustules or crusting can allow infection to develop and lead to more serious conditions." caused by allery, hormonal, seborrhea, etc...hair follicle infections....I had to wait for normal business hours for my Vet and I began putting an anti-bacteiral cream on the 'inflamed' area every two hours or so...by the time Monday came about, it had gone down and I did not go to the Vet and nothing came of it......Yours may be a whole different story, but since I am only giving you the story of my experience, you should take precautions for your particular instance.......

  • I see all sorts of lumps and bumps. I don't worry too much if it is a 'free form' lump. If it's not solidly attached to the muscle/tissue/bone underneath, I rarely worry. Misi has one in almost the same spot. It was filled with blood, but was probably a small cyst from rubbing and when I grabbed her leg, it broke open. It went away, so I don't worry. But, I am very relaxed about a lot of things. If they puke, whatever, I don't run to the vet for everything. If you are worried, take her in. But, by the sounds of it, since it is getting darker, it's probably a blood filled cyst. Personally I wouldn't run to the emerg, I would wait for regular hours. As Buddy's Pal stated, put antibacterial cream on and rub. It may break down on it's own. My opinion only. I know there are a lot here that disagree.

  • My females gets little pimples all the time, I am not too worried about it. Last night I found a different type of bump on her by her tail that I have never seen before or felt before. It is different from her 'normal' bumps and lumps. I will monitor this one for a few days and if it is stil there once we come back from our holidays I will take her to the vet. (Seeing that we recently lost our Toller to cancer, I am a little paranoid at this stuff now). But your bump looks like a normal cyst/pimple that I see in my B sometimes.

what ever became of the lump??? Did you have a Vet look at it???? just curious, hope all is well!

  • Heya Buddys pal,

The day after i posted the picture of her little lump it turned black and fell right off. Actually i am not sure when it fell off i just knew it wasn't there. The bump underneith also slowly went away. We have her penciled in for a vet visit this weekend so i will let you know what they say. Thanks for the concern!

    Cheers

Could it have just been a blood blister or something like that?
