  • Yipee! I've finally gotten on here long enough to post a picture! The babies from Kyle and Steve's first litter are born (As of Dec. 27)… the Dapper x Bailey litter! Only one picture so far!! Check it out! So stinkin' cute! This will be a very long 10 weeks!!!

  • Wow that is a big litter!! They are so cute. It will fly by pretty fast. You will have time to puppy-proof your house and get all the baby goodies ready and then your pup will be ready!

  • Trouble times seven! It's going to be a long ten weeks for Mom too! ;) (at least until they are weaned) What's an average Basenji litter, four? Very cute pups!

  • Congrats! I can almost smell puppy breathe!

  • Congratulations :)

What an adorable horde of little peanuts! I am looking forward to lots of puppy pictures from you :D

  • Yes! Sweet little peanuts! I'm very excited for you - I was in your position last year, waiting for my darling Kipawa. Keep yourself busy, stock up on toys, food, training books (for you).

Nate, is this your first basenji? If so, you are going to have soooo much fun!

  • So exciting. Such lovely babies.

  • She has been in labor since 9 am in the morning, and it is 4:30 pm.

  • I know, all, how crazy big was this litter?! Kyle and Steve just kept saying, "But wait, there's more!" haha.

Fran, yes, this is my first Basenji, so I'm super excited. I've been enamored with the breed for a long time, but I finally made the decision to look for a puppy in October/November… it's been a lot of reading, researching, asking questions, going to dog shows, etc. but I'm so excited! These 10 weeks will end up flying by, I'm sure, then my baby and best furry friend gets to come home!

I am smiling for you right now! Beautiful memories of the first few hours. Your little one will be exploring everything, lots of excitement, and then passing out because of needing a nap! Nate, are you getting a male or female? Not that it matters…. basenji love is basenji love. :)

  • After researching and listening to opinions on here/speaking with Kyle and Steve, I decided I want a male. Right now my preference is for a brindle male (though there's only one in this litter… but hopefully it's my boy!), but I'd be interested in a black and white as well (as there are no reds in this litter either). They are expecting a second litter next week, so it's possible that my pup could come from that litter as well... it's just going to depend on pick of the litter, etc. It's got me on edge now, but I know in a few weeks a decision will be made, so we'll see! Eeeeee... so excited :P

  • The right puppy is worth waiting for. I prefer boys too. Do you plan to show your puppy? If so, we may see you at some of the shows as we show in that area at the larger events.

  • I'm a boy lover too. :) Kipawa was quite strong with his siblings, and Kevin and Therese thought one of the girls might be a better match for us as first time basenji owners. However, Kipawa picked us - jumped up on me, tucked his head under my hair and let out a big sigh. :) I shall never forget that moment.

  • @Fran… aw :) Yeah, I can't wait to experience being dogpiled by the whole litter :)

@Lisa; I don't plan on showing, but I'm sure my pup and I will visit shows often. I like the environment and the certian level of "Crazy" that I get to behold at dog shows, but I don't have the time to finish a dog, so I'd be doing the pup a dishonor by even attempting to get him show-ready. Kyle and Steve have remarked that they're going to make a handler out of me, though... so who knows! lol

@creambasenji said in New Puppy Advice: She's 9 months and 8.5 pounds. Doesn't seem she will be getting any bigger This must be a typo. 9 months or 9 weeks? At any rate, I'd love to see a picture of a cream Basenji, toy or not.

@giza1: Heck, I never fed my puppies mush either, just softened kibble. And it didn't seem to take very long before the pups would be sitting in the mom's dog dish chewing on her dry kibble. -Joanne When you think about it… softened kibble is mush.... just all depends on how you offer it. And I only do "mush" between 3 to 4 wks after that it is just softened kibble... and in the end.. that is mush

We drove out to Indiana and met with the BCOSW Rescue Coordinator on Friday. Vixen's new name is Daisy. She is 9 weeks old already. I was successful uploading just a few photos into Photobucket. These photos were taken at the pet friendly hotel. We spent Thursday night there, anticipating the Friday morning union. Daisy is so sweet. [image: DukeDaisy002.jpg] Here you can see the banter begin in the hotel room. Lisa & Wanda from the BCOSW helped with their introduction . . . It continues until they're napping or in their crates. Duke is real pushy intervening attention by us with Daisy. Even though he gets more than his fair share of love & attention. Does anyone know how long this will last? Any suggestions? Daisy gets right back in Duke's face though. She is not afraid of him. He puts his teeth on her, I get nervous, because he is so much bigger and stronger than her. She goes after his stubby tail. He springs up on the sofa to get out of her way. She goes under the sofa to get out of his way. Then they're off and running again. The dynamic in our home has once again changed. I hope that Duke will calm down again. [image: DukeDaisy003.jpg] [image: DukeDaisy005.jpg]

See, that's why I have no problem recommending Jumoke to potential Basenji owners {slaves, whatever}. Everything is so thorough. After talking more w/Bryan, I am in the process of switching Jazzy to Eukanuba low-fat diet because he felt that while she was getting enough puppy chow to maintain a healthy weight, she was not getting chow every day to fulfill her nutrient requirements. {she has a tendency to chunk up, and he was unaware of the quantity of food she ate each day}. He did the research for me, and recommended the food that he feels will most benefit her – and she likes it. She is getting Pet-Tabs also. I'm glad the question came up because otherwise I would have never gotten around to discussing her diet w/him. So, a big Thank you to Bryan for all his hard work, and also to whoever it was that posted the original question and got the discussions going!
