• Great pictures Jess… My OJ loved horses... and always loved when we would go to the one coursing field that had a bunch of horses... now my Maggii on the other hand "hated them"... and would nip their noses.

  • @DaMac:

Racing horses? I know a breeder who quit showing horses just to race them. Got her son into it also. 50-100 miles over a weekend and she loved it. I know, different racing. You really do become one with the horse over those miles and really do have to care for them.

What I am really against is thoroughbred horse racing. I feel (my feelings) it's just not right to have a 2 year old horse pounding around a track injuring themselves. Those bones are still too soft. I'm not a fan of it for older horses either.

What you're talking about in my mind is fine, again as long as the horse is ready for it. Yes, I agree - it's a different type of 'racing' - more like an outward bound experience that does engage both rider and horse closely together, caring for each other.

I miss riding, but after an accident injuring my back, I was warned to put that activity to rest. 😞 But, if Kipawa gets big enough to ride…. πŸ˜ƒ

  • I've always found that my Basenjis have an affinity with horses. Lovely pictures and Charlie looks a cracker.

  • Wow, great pictures!

  • Fantastic pictures, it's great to see different species getting on together like that.

  • Gorgeous Pictures! I noticed the white brand on Charlie Is he a mustang?

  • Just out of curiosity - what happened to Charlie's chest? It looks like the hair is missing in a big strip across the front.

  • Love your pics!

  • Thanks all, glad you liked the photos πŸ˜ƒ

Thats a freezemark for identification if he were stolen. He's a connemara, a native irish breed.

    Rug rub

  • Great Pictures! My dog Spranky used to play whit my Shetland pony?s but they were way too enthousiastic so Spranky was always staying a few meters away from them πŸ˜ƒ

  • As in pony? Connemara? I had a 1/2 when I was a Junior rider years and years ago… he seems a bit bigger?

  • Charlie is only 14.2 πŸ˜ƒ He's a proper old fashioned type though so built like a tank. He looks and rides a lot bigger than he is πŸ˜ƒ

  • First Basenji's

The pictures are great!! My daughter is raising a lamb for 4-H. She keeps him at a friends ranch. Mojo loves to chase the lambs- he likes to try to round them up and get them back in their pen. The only problem? I have to run and keep up with him- I keep him on his leash- I'm not comfortable letting him run with the lambs. I'm scared he'll get to close and get trampled. Maybe I'm just a worry wart!!!!

  • Great pictures Jess πŸ™‚

  • Anubis is absolutely terrified of my horses. I have 3. A B/w Paint (Scout) a Thoroughbred (Jett) and a mustang (Ace). (My parents have like 4 others that are theirs but my 3 have grown up with dogs but Anubis hasnt grown up with horses. He gets his ridge going and gets scared when the lean over the fence to smell and say Hi. Its pretty funny actually. He thinks he can whip every dog (including the neighbors Great Pyreneese who comes around to say Hi sometimes) around but horses hes terrified of.

  • LOL! I was just reading a post on identifying a basenji mix…

So when I saw this thread I immediately thought the basenji was crossed with a horse... or some big-as-a-horse canine.

Anyway, beautiful photos! And thanks for the [unintentional] chuckle!

  • And here I thought all Connemara ponies were white! LOL

These are great pics. I love the one of the horse rearing while the B is leaping like a mad thing in the background.
