Asthenia breeding plan 2011

Breeder Talk
  • Hi all,
firstly I would like to thank you all for your congratulations and nice words :).
And secondly it is official that we are expecting puppies. Today Buju was ultrasounded and there have been 4 pups probably :D.
Will keep you posted with news and also pics of expectant mother :).

  • Awesome…congratulations..can't wait to see pictures.

  • CONGRATS! Can't wait for pics.

A few questions… I do know some basenji don't go in heat in the fall times, and some go twice a year. Is it common in your line for the bitches to come in heat in the Spring? Not a breeder of basenjis so excuse if a silly question.

    My second was about this:

Firstly we planned to mate Buju to our older boy Geasy but unfortunately he wasn?t interested in her enough to mate her. His motto was "do it yourself" . Old silly boy . So I hope for next year…

If you wanted to use that stud, can you not do artificial insemination? Seems waiting another year if he is older (not just older than the one you used), will only decrease sperm count. Or are there regs against it there?

  • Good luck.

    Rita Jean

  • Congrats again Irena!!!

Crossing my fingers for healthy beautifull puppies!!

    I don't think it is a silly question ;).
Well, Buju's mother Abanda has had fall season only as same as females behind her.
I suppose Buju inherited that spring heat (she has heat once a year only) from her grandma from father's side (am I right, Jenny? ;) ).

And about that older stud. I would prefer natural mating as I already plan to inseminate her for her last litter. And I think two insemination would be enough. Anyway one year is a long time and plans aren't always 100% so we will see :).

Yes Irena you are right Buju's grandmother Cali had springs seasons and Buju's dad was born from one of them. I much prefer spring seasons to winter seasons as it is much nicer getting the puppies outside in the nicer weather.

  • Here is a pic of Buju which I took on Sunday, the 36th day of her pregnancy.

And here is also Masai, father-to-be :).

  • congratulations

  • Our "D" litter arrived yesterday in the late evening hours. Buju gave birth to 3 boys and 2 girls, all r/w.

Here are pics of pups and also pups with proud mom Buju :).

    Girl: Duma Wane

    Girl: Dibaya Watu

    Boy: Dilolo Weko

  • Aah… Congratulations!! Lovely looking pups and those pics with mommy.. Priceless...!!

  • Aww lovely pics and Buju looks a very happy mummy:D

@Kipawa: I think most people will agree that neutering a dog does not spoil their spirit or temperament. More often, spaying or neutering results in a more calm, balanced animal. I agree, but we have lots of people on the Forum from over the "pond" and they have most different ideas about spay/neuter, different culture, different ideas…. and that is their right.... sometimes we all will need to agree to disagree..

Seems like the DNA sample would be easier to get too. I guess the advantage of the sperm count is that you at least know if the sire is fertile or not. Good luck, can't wait to see pictures of the pups to be.

Thanks Andrea and Robyn, That was helpful. Zoni isn't horribly mouthy but I definitely have some more work to do with her. I carry a nylabone in my pocket for the occasion.

Based solely on these photos, I would rank Bella and Dean the highest but Clark and Flash are certainly not far behind. This is a fabulous litter. I love them all.

Well, while Lisa is enjoying her pups (and yes I am jealous…ggg)... We are still waiting for Mz Kylie to be bred, however today Baily was very insistent that he be able to spend time with her...gggg, so with any luck we will get a breeding today or tomorrow... if so we should be expecting at the end of January
