I cannot imagine committing to buy a puppy without seeing the animal and if possible the sire and dam. OTOH, a rescue (or adoption of an older dog) is a different thing. My last two Basenjis came to me sight unseen, and turned out to be wonderful dogs, but the breeders I got them from wanted to place their dogs in an experienced Basenji home, and I only paid the cost of getting the dogs to me. One came by air, one was personally transported to me by his breeder. If she hadn't been happy with what she found I expect she would have taken him back with her when she left. I also had to commit to return him if ever I couldn't keep him. Good breeders care about where their dogs end up.

When I did the search in the Tucows directory I got the full name and address of the person who registered the site. He does appear to real and lives in New York.

I doubt this is a legitimate breeder. Who would make the phone number optional? Most of y'all who breed want to meet in person with the potential new owner and, barring that, at least have conversations on the phone….right? This appears to be "order your pup and we'll ship it." More information needs to be gathered to be sure this is first, not a scam (as Ms. ibi n sane says they used her photos) and second, not a puppy mill, if they do, in fact, even have dogs.
Ms. lvoss: You tracked down an apparently legitimate address through a domain registry. It is very easy to fake an address and set up a dummy web site. My suspicion is that this is an internet scam. Perhaps Mr. Nerdy will have some input here. He seems to be fairly internet savvy.
Has anyone searched Mr. DeMarco's name through AKC or CKC? I don't have access to do this.
I have one of those new Droid phones. With it, I can look up the address attached to the domain name. Additionally, I can see a satellite image of the exact location. I'm going to reserve my opinion of what I see for now.

You can not seach AKC for people unless they advertise in the breeders section with puppies for sale. Not that many do.

This has been on there with that ad since last fall. Usually you will speak with man named Frank. Do not ask me how but from what I found last fall this goes back to the breeder dogs in New Mexico. Not her but beleive it might be one of her dog's that she had sold Jeannie and I talked about this ad in the fall. As far as pictures I did not know who's pictures they were.

This is the first time I saw the ad, and I was rather appalled, so I decided to say something here. Lack of oil glands? ugh, my head exploded. I didn't even know they were stolen pictures.
I was thinking puppymill, and I have my doubts that they do any of the testing they claim to do, but I did find it interesting that we have gotten the message across about testing to the point that the puppymills are claiming to test! That was my other point in my original message. I probably should have made that more clear.
I hope the people whose pictures he stole are able to go after him!

Did you talk about that ad here on the forums? I would love to see it, and see what you guys found out. I searched "google" "google ad" and "mybasenjidogs" and can't find the thread.

Belinda,
What app is that? I have a G1, not a Droid, but they both run Android, so I wonder if I could do that on my G1?-Nicole

No not here on the forum Jeannie and I had been talking e-mail when I found the ad and we talked about it. I do not know if I still have email from the ad or not. I thought it was a bad ad so answered it with another name and email he got back to me even talked with him and found name he was using for female and male. Like I said that was early last fall. The ad went away for a few weeks then it came back. I do hope he get's into trouble for using other people pictures that is incorrect.

Belinda,
What app is that? I have a G1, not a Droid, but they both run Android, so I wonder if I could do that on my G1?Not sure whether it will be on G1. Mine's a Motorola Droid. It's the embedded maps app that's preloaded on my phone. Open the menu when your map is open, go to layers and tap on satellite. It'll be handy to see whether there is parking at my destinations. It's actually kind of cool…it has me pinpointed almost to the room I'm staying in at this motel.

Sweet! It works.

This is awful!

I think I recognize the dog in the tree as a photo I saw posted here a couple months ago. This guy needs a closer look. Do we have anyone in the Rotterdam, NY area who would feel comfortable enough to cruise by and see what's up and whether they even have any dogs?
None of the outdoor photos of the dogs look like what I saw in the satellite image I looked at earlier.

I am 99% sure that the pic of the puppy head shot, Tri coloured dog is taken off an Australian site as well…
Im off to check Imright, then I will email the person whose photo is . This is sooo wrong...
-
I too belive I have seen some of these pics elsewhere, but of course now I can't remember where ..I will research and see what I can find out..
Yes, trouble needs to be heading this man/womans way…big time..
-
Yep I was right, that cute puppy pic is from this ladies site, so have emailed her with the site details, so now its up to her to do whatever she deems fit .
-
Yup, many "steal" pictures from other sites… and use on advertising for puppies... sad as that is... it happens all the time....
-
this is sort of the opposite of kennel blind. most breeders are proud enough of their own dogs to post pics of them. this person is obviously so embarassed by her dogs she doesn't want anyone to see them.
-
The name and address are apparantly legit on the whois info. DeMarco is one half of a 85 year old funeralhome in Rotterdam.

I love how he states fanconi is a condition that sometimes happens in basenjis. If it weren't so sad, it'd almost be funny!

Interesting, a Michael A DeMarco Jr of Stamford,CT with beagles had all his AKC privileges suspended for the next 10 years in February 2009.
Here is the April 2009 secretary's page listing the notice.

Notice he says "A visit to my ESTATE is encouraged." Somebody ought to take him up on that!

I saw that and thought the same..

I made a visit via satellite to Mr. Demarco's "estate" at 353 Melrose St in Rotterdam. I'm not sure I would call it an estate. In fact, I'm quite sure I would find some other descriptor for it.
