      @fountainhead:

      thank you…whew, i thought it coming out his penis was going to be something terrible.....i've been wiping his eye with a hot rag hoping that would help, you know, like when a baby has a plugged tear duct.

      Alway be careful of eyes… I would always rather be safe then sorry and have any eye problems checked out if it doesn't clear up in a couple of days.

      Rami did that when we first got him and we thought it was nerves. It continued after a few months, so we changed his food (same brand) from chicken to lamb. He had been eating chicken all his life and somehow had recently developed an allergy to it. He still has flaky skin every now and then, esp this past spring when everything started blooming (he's a sensitive guy 😉 ), but for the most part it's much better. I also give him fish oil pills, one with each meal. I would try a better brand of food and maybe stick with chicken, but if that still doesn't help, try beef or lamb instead.

      It's a grooming thing. They use their front teeth to "flea" you. I think it tickles.

      One of my friends was VERY offended when my dog did this to him, as if a basenji was literally accusing him of having bugs.

      @elena86:

      I bought some organic dog food by a company called Castor and Pollux. It was chicken and brown rice formula. Senji doesn't like it even when I mix it in with something else. He picks out the pieces of the "offending" dog food. Maybe I'll just donate the rest to the shelter.

      I feed Castor and Pollux too and Buddy seems OK with it. I mix it with frozen raw made by Primal. I also mix in organic canned pumpkin. I rotate the type of raw every week between chicken, duck, lamb and beef.

      @Ninabeana26:

      Yea no kidding! That's why I laughed when a couple months back I read that ad for the basenji puppies where it said "non-shedding, non-barking dog!!!" Yea frickin right! My work pants, sheets, sofa, air, etc beg to differ!!!

      The only part that is true is "no" doggy odor…

      Bassitt is pretty sure that she's agile like a cat. Except she outweighs cats by at least 10 pounds. She's forever falling off of the back of the couch because she thinks her butt's smaller than it is. (Then she gets scared because she fell off. Then she runs away and doesn't look where she's going and runs into stuff and gets scared.) In short…She's a total klutz, but in such a delightful way!

      Dallas has the same thing & I was told it was a reaction to his recent rabies vaccination. It will go away within a few weeks.

      None of our B's yodel. Our B/W that came with my husband into our marriage never made a sound he passed away a few years ago and we got two pups who are now 3 and 4 The 4yr old never has made a sound since coming to be with us.Only twice has a yodel slipped out and that was when he was hungry and food wasn't getting there fast enough. Our tri 3 yr old we heard yodel as a pup with her litter mates but since coming to live with us she has also only yodeled a few times Maybe because he is so silent she is too?? My daughters dogs yodel all the time and I love it, I so wanted to have singing dogs too
