Dog Days Of Summer

Show Off Your Dog
  • The heat this summer in Georgia has been unbearable. Dolce has worn a path in the hardwood floors from her constantly going in and out to seek warmth and then back in the AC to cool down. These are the days I kick myself for teaching her to ring the bell to go out and come in because it never stops.

Here is a quick video of her lounging outside in her favorite spot.

  • That's adorable! She didn't seem to be bothered by the camera at all… She was getting her "beauty nap."

  • Hope she doesn't need a doggy chiropractor when she wakes up!

  • I am always amazed at how they can sleep with their necks draped over something hard like that…but they do it so must feel good. Looks like she has beat the heat, at least for awhile.

Very cute video - I can sympathize with the bell business - we taught ours to ring a bell as well, and after a while, took the bells down. It got to the point Shaye was ringing it constantly, simply because she wanted to go out - had nothing to do with NEED.

  • LOVE the pose, with the front legs outstretched! It's amazing what positions basenjis find comfortable. Thanks for sharing.

I used Wisdom Panel for my assumed Basenji mix. It showed no basenji at all. My boy is 32 lbs and short hair. His DNA says he is 25% American Eskimo 12.5% Boston Terrier 12.5% Chow Chow 12.5% German Shepherd 12.5% Miniature Schnauzer 25% Breed Group-Sporting, Herding, Hound, Terrier. Having owned basenjis all my life I would say my boy has basenji in him by his personality and behavior regardless of what his dna says!!

Fula Nzara of the Congo was sired by Fulaflyaway of the Congo and my dogs are related through him. Queen Juliana was a patron of our club - the Basenji Owners and Breeders Association. It was wonderful to see the pictures, thank you for posting them.

Super pictures of the two of them. The stem cell injectiobns seem a great help with the hips. I'm not sure that it is done here. I must find out. You have a right to gush about Kipawa - he's a lovely boy.

We are J J and Karin, Kansas City, Mo. Both of our kids are rescues, Itty Bitty Basenji now 5 years old, originally from Craigs List and Mr Baroo, now about 2 years old, a BRAT adoption. We have no idea where they came from or exactly how old they actually are. Bitty is the more delicate little girl with the white face, Baroo is the more muscular boy with the totally red head. All dogs that are treated well will be good protectors. You want big dogs means like Labs, German Shepherds, Doberman Pinschers, etc. or any mixed breed dogs will do as well.
