Missy my Basenji!

  • Great pics, i also love the one of Missy with the Top hat and raised paw, it's brilliant.

  • Again, I would have to agree with lvoss, better to be prepared then not…. and do you have a plan for introducing them? Never a really good thing to just "waltz" in with another dog and "surprise" the one that lives there. Remember, it was her home first... and now you are asking her to share everything, including you, with a complete stranger..

  • There are few household that can handle running 2 different packs…and if you don't, and they do not get along, you will have 2 very damaged dogs from fighting...sometimes to the death.
It is not to be overstated, that this can be very serious. Please, reconsider.

  • yes i totally agree. however i just have faith in her. She has always been really good with other puppies, no matter the gender. If it doesnt work out, her owner now will take her back. but i think after a little while she should be ok.

like i said, thank you for your concerns, i appreciate the input. It if doesnt work out ill give her back to the owner. If it does, then great :)

  • Ok, I do understand and I am hopeful it will work out.
I do have to tell you that your 2 girls can go along well for YEARS…then something happens and they won't be able to be in the same room...
BUT as your aware, maybe you can do something to prevent it.
Good luck and let us know how its going..we do just want to help.

  • Yes, i am too. and i know, dogs do that all the time. are fine one minute and then hate them the next. but i have been working with dogs my whole life, i know just about everything about a dog. I have studied dog phycology, body language, and have been around dogs my whole life. They are the only things i would say i am smart with lol. but i do really appreciate the comments and the advice. I will let you know but i think she should be ok.

  • Well, share photos and let us enjoy your new addition.

  • :D will do!

  • She is darling and so is your Missy..so happy for you..wishing you all the best..

  • Thank you :) she is a great dog, and i cant wait to get the other pup too!

Hi everyone, Thanks for all of your replies! Rex just had his first vet visit (first with me at least), and he was given a clean bill of health. The vet that I saw also agrees with a lot of you that he looks like a Min Pin more than a Basenji, but he is likely still mixed with something because he's a bit too big to be a pure Min Pin. I've looked at a few DNA Dog Breed tests online, and they seem to range in price and in quality. It seems like some of the cheaper (~$50) tests are fake, but they go all the way up to almost $250 for the higher quality ones. Do any of you have experience with these DNA tests / have a brand you found reputable? I'll be sure to post the results of any of the tests with this forum! Thanks again, and Rex is doing really great in his new home!! [image: 1559586518913-img_3707-resized.jpg] [image: 1559586546977-img_3720-resized.jpg] [image: 1559586568474-img_3708-resized.jpg]

We bought a dremel to do his nails and he absoutely hates it. I let him look, snif and move it while it was not off and he just backs up. I turned it on and he ran away. So we will us the dog clippers for his nails, those seem to be working.

No idea, sometimes with mixes it's so hard to tell what the parentage is. I do think that your dog's head is a bit more refined than many of the pit mixes i've seen.

I agree with the others that although he seems to have Basenji in him - his head is def. not Basenji. As for the leg I'd have it amputated if it troubles him - He'll cope with 3 legs I'm sure, but certainly consult a specialist first. Please keep us updated.

Definitely jealous! I used to live in Idaho, b.b., and really miss it. Nothing around here where I would feel okay about letting EL D run free.

I might be inclined to believe foxhound if he didn't weigh less than 40 lbs. That And neither a lab or a foxhound have a tail that goes straight up and curls over the back. Whippet is a possibility, but again that doesn't explain the tail curling over the back. Granted his tail is longer and not as bushy as a pure Basenj, but then he isn't pure Basenji. Pugs have a wrinkled forehead and a curled tail, but he has the longer neck and a gait more like a sight hound, and his coat is shorter but not the double coat of a lab, so I am kind of ruling out pug. He may be a big pile of mixes from parents who were mixed. I don't really care what breed he is, he is a great dog. I think I am right on basenji, but if not, it's no big deal. And no he hasn't chewed my underwear. He did chew on the couch cushion where I usually sit.
