Garbage Dog

Basenji Talk
  • Aj has been so good about staying out of the trash I didn't even think about the leftovers from dinner two nights ago when I got out of the truck. I had the trash bag between the driver seat and the door. Yesterday, I left AJ in the truck to take care of some business inside our terminal. I was gone about 45 minutes.

Well, when I opened the door…you guessed it...food boxes all over the driver side floor and not a scrap of leftovers left over. Even the bag was licked clean. AJ, knowing he had gotten into something he shouldn't have, ran back into the sleeper berth area, jumped on the bed and made himself as small as he could, crying the whole time.

I couldn't get him in serious trouble because it was partly my fault for leaving the very tempting garbage. He already felt bad about it anyway. Still, I can't just let him get away with it. I ended up scolding him and leaving it at that.

He slept so well with that very full tummy that he snored so loud I had to push him a couple times to quiet him. Since he ate all that food, he has had to poop five times. I would, too...that was a lot of food even for me.

Today, he has a case of the toots from all the green beans he ate yesterday. Each time he lets one, he looks behind himself to see where the noise came from. Hopefully, he gets over this soon. He might have to sleep on the catwalk tonight!

Trash will henceforth be removed as soon as I am near receptacle.

    Cheers!

  • Wow - I'm still laughing! Never trust your basenji :D

The 'good' smell was to much for poor AJ. What else could he do?

Perfect! With all the consequences… Would like to see a pic of your face when you found it out (and of the bugged expression at night, because of the snoring and pooping :p )

  • Did he get any pumpkin pie for dessert? That would at least make all that garbage come out firm.

  • No pumpkin pie…but there was cheese on that spaghetti. I think that's what kept him from having the runs. He sure has had a lot to get rid of today, though! :D

  • How funny..mainly because it wasn't my dog for once…haha. Of course also because I can imagine the toot smell in that cabin..so confined, nowhere to go to get away..

It's winter but the windows will have to come down a bit after each toot. And I don't mean toot of the truck horn either. :D

  • Mine would have been in that garbage 2 minutes after you let go of it! I laughed at the image of that stuffed little dog snoring away, haha!

  • I'm still LMAO- I can definitely picture it-especially after Shadow ate 4 pizza buns one time!

  • Funny,
I keep our house picked up better now that I have 3 B's, they get into everythiong. Thank you for sharing.

  • Awww! He's just trying to get attention;) I have the same issue with the snoring. Never had it with the last B boy. Arleigh is easier too stop than my last boyfriend!!!!:D

  • I just laughed my head off with the mind bubble this gave me. :D

  • This was hilarious! Mine is crazy about butter. One time he at 1/2 of a stick in one swallow! YUCK. Anyone else have this issue.

  • Otis is crazy about butter too. He has stolen a total of two and a half sticks now ..he loves it, then again, Otis loves anything his momma eats..

In your position, where you really have to take her out a lot, I understand. And I hope her comfort continues. My point was it is situational need, not dog need to be that social. :) I have a slim chance of that having worked with my current 2, but with my incredibly dog aggressive first one, I'd have been out in a basket muzzle and warning everyone to keep their dogs away.

Hollie will hide her treats and her dog food. Her favorite hiding place is under MY pillow in the bed. She has tried to hide her entire food bowl by pushing one of her plush toys with her nose in an attempt to get the toy on top of her food bowl. Why doesn't she just use her mouth to pick it up and place it on the bowl? Silly dog!

Yes I agree Pat, Fort Funston could get very crowded and dangerous for smaller dogs as packs of bigger dogs playing could cause injury. My 2 Basenjis were very good and stayed pretty close to me and got used to the crowds. The only problem I had there was with this lady who had an older Tri color female Basenji. It would bite my blk/wht, Nika who was 1-1/2 on the butt. A few times of that and I stayed way away from her. The problem is Nika was a very playful girl and never did anything like that. A few times of getting nipped on the butt started her doing it to other dogs and Basenjis. A Basenji would want to play and Nika would chase and give a nip and the the other dog would get mad and a fight would occur. Nobody would ever get hurt thankfully. It was rare that it would happen as I took them there for 9 years, mostly on the weekend without problem. We had a lot of fun and people loved the Basenjis! Ringo, the red/wht was a very entertaining clown when we'd go down to the beach.
