    We are in Tampa, if you are ever over this way, a group of us meet up most every Sunday around 11 am. We had 18 basenjis there a couple of weeks ago, you are welcome to join us anytime. Sorry we aren't closer!

    Mac Pack, I see here that everyone meets on Sunday at 11 am… which park? I'd love to show off my Lola... she is a showgirl after all.

    We were at Walsingham Park yesterday and there was a "little" dog and "large" dog fenced area. The little dog area was empty, and Lola told me that she WAS a large dog, lol...

    We were there for about an hour, and she outran all of those wimpy big dogs. She's still tuckered out! :)

    Patty - we meet at West Park on Occident, just north of Hillsborough in Tampa. We get together in the large dog park, on the left side way down after you get through the gates. They do love to run with their own kind!

    Google Hillsborough County Parks, West Park Dog Park, they have good directions!
    Some folks get there as early as 9:30 but we are slugs on Sunday morning and rarely get there before 11!

    We met at the pet expo, look forward to meeting Lola and seeing you again!

    Poor Kismet still can't get Bear to play with her and kept making me get up when I was getting ready for bed (didn't know if her pacing my room was a potty call or not!). I'm thinking I may try to go to that new Winter Springs dog park later today if I'm not too tired to tire her out some. Anyone in Orlando interested in going? If not today maybe we can plan another outing.

    Kismet visited Hound Ground Dog Park today. It took a lil bit for her to get accustomed to all the other doggies but after being mistaken for a Rhodesian Ridgeback mix and some growling she was running along like she was part of a pack. I'll bring my camera next time and share some photos! :)

    I was 'surfing' to find out a local area where there are other B's. I live in Crystal River and would like to find out if you still meet on Sundays???:confused:

    See my post above, a group of us meet every Sunday at West Park dog park in Tampa, we have been meeting every Sunday for 10 years, except in REALLY bad weather. Google Hillsborough County parks for directions. We only had 14 there today, I think it was 17 or 18 last Sunday. We don't e-mail each other about who is coming, we just go if we can, 10"30 till 11 and we often stay till after 2 pm.

    It'll be a lil while now til I can make it. Kismet caught kennel cough somewhere (vet says Petsmart, dog park or doggie daycare) :( Plus who knows when I'll get a day off on a Sunday at my new job. Hopefully she'll be better by next month and I can start bringing her out again. :)

    I must agree that naive, first-time wanne-be owners need to do deep, extensive research. Basenjis are supremely unique and definitely not a good choice for a "beginner." I adopted an 18-month old 3/4 Basenji (other 1/4 is Min Pin, yet another quirky little breed, with some "bad" similarities to B's). I was somewhat familiar with B's, but not even a little bit of "enough!!" Gosh, Izzy-Bella was a piperoo!! A little 18 pound bundle of energy, destruction, and escapism. BUT, I have always loved bad boys (9 years working in a high school), so a little bad girl was a sort of delight. But, again, it takes many years before these dogs mellow out and mature and maximize their amazing intelligence. Izzy is SO SO smart: her early unbridled destructiveness has pretty much ended, and now, at ten years old, she amazes us every day with her intelligence, innate understanding, observational skills, language acumen, and comedic skills. And at ten years old, she acts like a three year old! I hope this means she will live forever. Once you have bonded with a Basenji, you are probably done and gone. But first-timers REALLY need to do their research and homework. Someone referred to entrusting their dog to a family member. I would entrust my B to nobody except a bona fide Vet hospital/kennel, with big-time fences and enclosures, B's are exceptional diggers-under-fences and escape artists. And a Number One cause of death for them is traffic. Their prey instinct sends them careening into traffic. Dumber than deer. But, bottom line: do your due diligence Basenji research, and understand early on that these dogs are singularly unique: indescribably destructive; escape artists; independent thinkers and behaviorists; smarter than you can even begin to imagine (I swear my Izzy understands everything I say and reads my mind!); and prepare to have lots of tissues on hand as auxiliary food, because apparently, Basenjis require wood pulp projects to prosper!! I don't get it.

    Hi, Yes we have a 10 month old basenji in the South Philly area. Would love to see him running around with another basenji, but have yet to see one in the local dog parks. How old is your boy?

    I'm so sorry. I didn't realize you had responded. I thought I'd get an email. Zoey is definately NOT good off leash. It would be great to find a fenced area…I know there is a dog park (with a small dog area) near me, but I don't know how you feel about driving. (I've commuted for years, so I'm used to it). I could probably call Bear Mountian the park to see if they allow dogs. I'm working tomorrow, but I'll try to find out on Tuesday. Also, there is some sort of an event in Woodstock, NY (beautiful town), sponsored by the Rip Van Winkle Basenji Club. I am totally new to all of this stuff, so I'm not sure what goes on there, but here is a link....I thought you might be interested.     Is been awhile since the last meetup, we used to be a big group most rescues Some not. If interested I can see if the gang wants to get together again or we can just Establish a date and I can bring my 3 and you can bring yours
