We "rescued" an owl

  • AJ Human - you are remarkable! I wish there were more people like you in our world - it would be darn near perfect!!!

"Granny lane" - my new favorite term.

  • @AJs:

That deputy seemed like a really nice guy who cared. (Huge son-of-a-gun, too…completely filled my driver side door.) I didn't sense any dishonesty with him. Also, he agreed with me when I was admiring the bird. Beautiful animal.

I hope I didn't imply otherwise. He sounded wonderful and well informed.

Unfortunately not all people realize that when an injured wild animal is taken to vets, they are sometime euthanized without cause. Rehab centers rock, and vets that get certified to rehab are the BEST!!!

Again, thanks for another great rescue:D

  • Great thing you did…Keep at it. On the road, you have much more ability to see and/or care about all of these creatures, in a timley manner, than most of us. I usually see the "roadkill" aspect, after the fact. It kills me every time I see it regardless of the animal, even the lowly possum (lots of around here).

  • Good job. Many, many years ago, my grandfather pulled a great horned owl out of his chimney. We were visiting later that day, so he kept it for 1/2 a day to show me then released it. Owls are fascinating.

    Here's one I made:

    and the white one

  • Agilebasenji..I love those owls you made, are the felted?
I so wish I know how to make those..beautiful work.

  • Those are adorable! And better pic's than the lame one I took of Kentucky. I'm kind of a dolt sometimes. Three cameras in my truck and I use my phone??? :D

oh well, you had other things on your mind at the time.

Thanks Basenjimomma. Yes they are felted; the top layer is done with specialty wools - mohair for the white and lincoln for the brown. Felting is a lot of fun, time consuming, but not too difficult. You may want to see if your local library has a book on felting and pick it up. It may give you some idea if it is something you want to do.

  • I will look into the library route.
I have felted some purses in the past so the knit and felt I know how to do, but these owls are exquisite…

  • I just love your Owls agilebasenji, especialy the White one

  • The owls are very pretty and I also like the white one. We have a hawk after my birds outside that I would love to stuff never happen but I yell at him all the time.

our garden is loaded with fieldmouses at the moment…. my B's do not care very much but my Ibizan hounds snack them all the time, sometimes they bring one inside for me to have, as a present, and they look quite offended when they notice I throw their delicious present in the garbage can ....

She-Ra helps clean off the Peanut Butter knife (held so she won't cut herself (even though it's a butter knife I've heard stories)) when I'm done with it. Gonna have to try the mashed potato beater this Thanksgiving (it's her first…she's seen this big bird in the fridge but can't quite figure out what to do about it! :) ).

Basenji seem to be the masters of the non-verbal put down. And I also agree with Basenji Boy's comment, reminds of that bumper sticker: the more I know of people, the better I like my dog. What is the correct plural of Basenji? 'Basenjis' or 'Basenji'? A Yodel of Besenjis?

I used to say my dog was aggressive until I read this thread… Now I say it is more of a defensive mechanism for Buddi. Buddi doesn't like anyone or anything to approach him. He wants to smell and get to know them or it first. If someone new comes into the house I tell them not to acknowledge Buddi at first and then once he has finished getting to know them he will walk away. After that he is fine. But if someone walks in and puts their hand towards him he instantly turns into a very loud and shows aggressive behavior like he is going to attack. The theory has worked very well to date. With dogs it is a little different. He also doesnt like small dogs. The ones close to his size or larger we have never had a problem. Should I handle the situations in a different manner? Also he doesnt go to a doggie spa or day care so we make sure to go to the park and keep him socialized with dogs there and ones that he knows. We also have friends with young kids and he loves them. Has never growled or snipped at them. He LOVES to play!!!!
