  • Hey Everyone,

My name is Michelle and I'm so excited to have come across this forum! I live in Michigan and am the human slave to 2 little basenjis. One is Tayda (short for Potato) , a female red and white that I got a year and a half ago from a breeder in Kentucky. And the other is Lenny (named after the character from John Steinbecks Of Mice and Men), a male brindle I got from a breeder here in Michigan about 9 months ago.

More about Tayda and Lenny and a photo in the show off your dog forum.

    Michelle

  • Welcome aboard :) , you have really nice looking basenjis there

  • Hi Michelle - Welcome to this forum and enjoy. I am also in Michigan - Livonia. I think I met your Howell breeder at the Pet Expo in November. She had a pack of Basenjis with her. That was the first time I saw another Basenji in person. My Basenji Duke was found abandoned last March - so I brought him home. He was about 12 weeks old at the time. Found out his breed when he was 6 mos. old. He is very much like having a small child at home - Our home is Basenji proofed at best. Lenny seems like a handful as well. Your B's are also beautiful.

  • Welcome and very cute pics! Must be Meisterhaus and Kiroja basenjis?

  • Hey Quercus - Yup thats right! one from Meisterhaus and the other from Kelli!

And Duke - That was in fact Kelli, Lenny's breeder in Howell that was at the Pet Expo… She has a nice pack of dogs... just had new puppies too!

  • Welcome! I'm sure you wil enjoy all this forum has to offer…I know I do!

@edo_a my email address is in the websites in my signature block. Please send me a .jpg and I will add it. I hope some of the siblings will be registered and that I can add them. But it is important they be tested for PRA too. So if you can make contact with any of them, it would be helpful to suggest it to them

My heart breaks reading your wonderful story of Dinah - it is so clear she is a huge part of your heart -you will have such wonderful memories of her when it is her time to give up the pain. I also do not believe dogs don't have souls - of course they do - the unconditional love they give, the way they try to help when you are emotionally suffering, the joy they get when they see you coming after a separation - all these and more are proof they are very soulful. A loving companion dog is God's gift. All our hearts are with you, and our tears flow with yours. God bless.

I live near the mountains in Colorado. There are some great trails with open space all around to let thme run around. Gosh I'm so jealous!! We don't have any plasce we could let our pooches loose. I would love a big open space sans any basenji prey :) that way they'll come back

Thanks to all for the warm welcome of basenji owners! We're taking a year off of dog ownership to welcome a foster kid. Actually, we would have liked to foster earlier but our basenji boy was not especially fond of kids, and running activity tended to result in him biting someone in the hiney! Our kids, grown now, will definately be basenji owners someday. Don't know whether my husband and I will or not – we loved Rosco but know we got a good basenji, and don't know if we're ready to lose another room full of furniture to break in a new one! Ha!
